The James F. and Marion L. Miller Foundation has given a $2.
1 million grant to the Portland Opera, reports The Oregonian.
The donation is the largest grant in the opera company's 42-year history and will provide general operating support over three years, according to the paper, including productions, salaries and other expenses. Portland Opera ended its fiscal year in June with a deficit of $978,788.
"This grant will help us return to our history of posting annual surpluses and increasing the balance sheet's net worth," Jim Fullan, director of marketing and public relations, told The Oregonian.
In London, dynamic duo Anna Netrebko and Rolando Villaz?n sing opera arias and duets; Emmanuel Villaume conducts.
In New York, the acclaimed trio celebrates its 30th anniversary on the stage where it made its debut, playing the same program (three Brahms piano trios) it performed in its first concert. Kent Nagano conducts Britten's opera, with Christopher Maltman as Billy, John Daszak as Vere and Kurt Rydl as Claggart, at the Bavarian State Opera in Munich. ".
