"This Marching Girl Thing" is from Kelli Simpson in Australia. Our star is a baton twirling hotshot and he is about to discover she has a lesbian relationship.
"Go Girl" is from Switzerland's Katrin Barben and is a delightful 7 minute musical search for the girl of your dreams.

"Dancing", from Scotland, stars Sylvia Syms who finds in a song the bittersweet recollection of an old lesbian affair. Herstorically poignant since Syms played the wife in Victim, Britain's 1961 groundbreaking film on homosexuality. Directed by Steven Rimkus, 22 minutes.

"Casting" set in Germany is an edgy, erotic lesbian casting call. Directed by Katrin Barben, 20 minutes.
Finally there is the fun of "A Day in the Life of a Bull Dyke" directed by Shawna Dempsey and Lorri Millan from Canada.

11 minutes. This is the story of a big-boned butcher who finds passion and purpose in unusual ways. From dawn to dusk we follow her into skirmishes, drag and the arms of a beautiful recruit.

Three short films that Naiad Press judged to be the best of 1996.
"but would you take her back?" asks that burning question of seven lesbians and listened to their poignant answers.

"Uncommon Ground" looks at two very different sisters, one lesbian and one disapproving.
"The Cowgirl Sweethearts" looks at this fun band of dykes both on and off-stage.
On June 18th, 2003, seven out comedians took to the stage of Gotham Hall in Santa Monica, California and told their coming out stories for this DVD.

This video has high production values for a small project of this sort. Made with humor and intelligence, Coming Out Party fills a need and will make you laugh.
Sabrina Matthews - Sabrina Matthews (TV’s “Comedy Central Presents Sabrina Matthews”) is an openly lesbian comic who relates the absurd in everyday life in a witty anecdotal style.

Offering her stream of criticisms, witticisms and comic observations, Matthews discusses being gay and proud of it
Rene Hicks - One of the top black female comediennes, Rene Hicks (TV's "Full Frontal Comedy") talks about growing up under the strict, watchful eye of her father, a Pentecostal preacher - and how he received the news about her sexual orientation
Eastern and Western culture collide in this poetic tale of infatuation and self discovery.
Meihua, a Chinese painter, comes to Paris from the southern reaches of the Yangtze River where she is immediately drawn to Stephanie, a French photographer.
What begins as a mutual admiration leaves two women to confront the realization that they share a passion for more than the arts.

As the forces of culture and the demands of family tug at this budding relationship, the women face an agonizing choice.
Will they risk their identities and relationships to indulge in their newfound lust, or will their passionate love affair end before it begins? Four sex stories with dills, hands, tongues and boots.

The video opens with “Mass Transit” and introduces Mistress Cobra, a fast-talking, funny sexy professional femdom who thought she would be meeting a client on an abandoned graffiti-ridden bus. A sexy butch and her two FTM buddies have been hanging around, bored and just waiting for a little excitement.
“Butch Fire” is a wild ride with two butches in love and determined to make each other come.

“The Attic” is an exquisite, hard-loving lesbian clip, riding the edge between pleasure and danger. These daring queers stop at almost nothing in their rough and passionate lovemaking.
And in the most romantic of the vignettes, “Full Load,” a femme and her FTM lover get frisky down in the basement laundry.

"Su Friedrich's brilliant new film mixes documentary and fiction to create a fascinating portrait of lesbian childhood. Revealing the imaginary universe of young lesbians, it's about being at an age when sexual feelings are still vague. The fictional narrative tells the story of Lou: a twelve year old girl living in Brooklyn in the mid 1960's coming to terms with her burgeoning sexuality.

Her story is skilfully woven between interviews with twenty adult women who recount salient moments from their childhood's including their first attractions, how they felt when they first heard the word lesbian and thoughts about the possible cause for their homosexuality. Mixing several genres, the film also includes more that 100 photographs of lesbians when they were young girls, and archival footage from educational films and home movies. A must see!

A gore-fest. Marie has a crush on herschool chum, Alex, and when they head off together to Alex' family's chateau, Marie thinks she has it made. But then this psycho killer shows up, kills Alex' family and hogties Alex.

Marie must now rescue the woman she lusts after from a not-really-dead guy who has a thing for necrophilia and chainsaws.
Ah, but wait, there's this twist, see. It turns out that the killer is actually… Marie!

Well, a he-Marie, a version of that naughty lesbian who never should have masturbated while watching her friend shower. Far bloodier than usual killer-lesbian flicks (check out the pic with this review). So, the lesson of this film is, that unless lesbians are fully accepted as anintegral part of society, and allowed to masturbate feverishly, they go psycho and kill entire families!

An entirely mixed film for an entirely mixed audience, ‘Just One Time’ starts from an age-old premise - every straight boy's 'readers' wives' fantasy of getting it on with two girls at the same time...

Anthony is a New York fire-fighter engaged to Amy, the woman of his dreams, and heading for wedded bliss within the fortnight. But Anthony's a good Catholic boy, and wants to get a long-standing fantasy off his chest before settling down to a respectable future. Amy's less than thrilled by the concept of a three-way so, like the good lawyer she is, suggests a deal: she'll do same-sex but only if he will too.

If it looks familiar that's because it is - director Janger made the film as a short which we screened at last year's festival - now you get to find out what happened after the end credits rolled. There is another film by the same name.

The ancient Indian sex guide the Kama Sutra becomes the basis for director Mira Nair's exploration of female sexuality in 16th century India. The servant is banished and winds up studying the Kama Sutra and becoming an acclaimed courtesan.

From there, she again becomes the king's mistress and again the rival of her one time friend. The movie shows the intense eroticism derived from the teachings of the Kama Sutra and the women are sexy, exotic and sultry.

Opening with the frenzied scene at his funeral, flashbacks attempt to chart his rise to fame and uncover the man behind the image. Rudolf Nureyev as Valentino looks the part, but he's woefully wooden and uninspiring. Possibly the weakest of Lily Tomlin's performance videos despite the presence of several of her trademark characters and the cameo appearances of Paul Anka, Dolly Parton, Liberace and Joan Rivers.

With the lure of gobs of money, Lily agrees to do the "Strip" and venture into the tacky world of Vegas. She soon finds out, however, that her subtle "message-laden" character comedy is no match for the glitzy pizzazz of Vegas superstar-lounge lizard Tommy Velour (Lily doing an on-target spoof of Wayne Newton) and his gaudy,mega-charged ilk. But Lily decides to sell out and the result is a show that would make any polyester-wearing grandmother from Indiana flush with excitement.

The bevy of gun-toting female assassins in this wildly over-the-top action flick are so tough, steely-eyed and man-hating as to make Catherine Trammell (of Basic Instinct) look like a virginal nursery school teaching by comparison.

There are spectacularly aerodynamic action sequences that boarder on the hallucinogenic as well as several scenes where the gorgeous hit women kill men for both their money and the fun of it! And shooting off their testicles are extra points. Master killer Sister Cindy (Sugawara) recruits Kitty (Yau) after she is ceremoniously dumped by her boyfriend (don't worry he paid dearly for that indiscretion).

A rival team of evil lesbian killers -- Princess (Ng) and her girl-toy lover Baby (Yao) -- get into the action as well. Princess is a former "student" of Sister Cindy who develops a fierce and violently jealous attraction for the lovely but heterosexually taken Kitty. There are several lovemaking scenes involving the women, the most interesting being one cross-cutting a scene featuring Kitty and her boyfriend with Princess and Baby.

Princess, the cigar-chomping lesbian is seen as a bitter ex-lover bent on revenge (who could blame her?). And check out the gratuitous nudity…of the men!

From the director of All God's Children comes a women's music documentary. This film chronicles the Women's Music Cultural Movement and its evolution from a "girl with guitar" to a revolution in the roles of women in music and culture. The movement gave birth to an alternative industry that changed women and music forever.

Through festival and performance footage, interviews, and archival material, the film delves into the rich and beautiful history of women creating a cultural life based in a commitment to diversity, personal integrity, feminism and women loving women. In its heyday, during the 1970s and 80s, women's music offered a different message than mainstream musical culture. It opened doors for women musicians, producers, sound and light technicians and for new women-owned recording companies and women-oriented shows.

Pioneers like Cris Williamson, Bernice Johnson Reagon, Margie Adam and Linda Tillery recall the frustrations and the triumphs of finding women sound engineers and other professionals in a completely male-dominated industry.

Adapted from Denis Diderot's famous 18th-century novel about Suzanne Simonin--an illegitimate teenager forced to enter a convent by her family--this is the most accessible by far of all of Rivette's features. It has a straightforward narrative that mainly concentrates on Suzanne's experiences at two convents--one severe and punitive, the other "progressive" and more worldly (though no less stifling for Suzanne when she finds herself pursued by the lesbian mother superior)--before she escapes to encounter a different kind of oppression in the world outside. Far from a nonbeliever, Suzanne is a devout character without a religious calling, and the film as a whole is a complex celebration of her continuous drive toward freedom.

In a phenomenal film debut, Natali Broods portrays a beautiful, young Belgian woman known only as S. She has moved to New York with her abusive boyfriend, and leads a life filled with chaos, trauma, and loneliness. Her distant mother is an alcoholic prostitute; her father was executed for murder.

S's relationships are full of violence and twisted love.
After her boyfriend sleeps with an ex girlfriend in her presence, S. is so disgusted, she shoots them both in a strangely calm fit of passion.

She returns to Brussels, where she becomes involved with the beautiful Marie. However, love is not enough, and she descends further into a downward spiral of insanity, manifesting in promiscuous sex, violence, and murder.
Containing graphic violence, with both heterosexual and lesbian sex, this film is like a car wreck—you can't help but stare.

Crossing the fine line between reality and surrealism, while juxtaposing stunning cinematography with raw imagery, this is a strangely disturbing portrait of a physically beautiful young woman, unable to cope with the demons that are gripping her soul. With an edgy musical soundtrack, and lush cinematography, dysfunction has never looked so good! Filled with feminist and religious metaphor, there is more than meets the eye to this haunting vision of a girl on the edge!

Not for the faint of heart, this film will not easily be forgotten. From Belgium,

Salome - Alla Nazimova directed (under her husband Charles Bryant's name) this extravagant version of the Oscar Wilde play, with sets and costumes by Valentino's wife (and Nazimova's lover) Natasha Rambova, who based her work on the erotic drawings of Aubrey Beardsley.

Originally made for HBO, this incisively funny comedy/performance piece by "bad girl" actress and comedienne Sandra Bernhard is a delight from beginning to end. Filmed in Francisco and shot by famed cinematographer Haskell Wexler, both the video and DVD includes 30 minutes of bonus material not seen on the cable broadcast.

From her acting debut as the crazed, yet vulnerable kidnapper of Jerry Lewis in The King of Comedy her career has been successful ( if a bit notorious.) Who could forget her memorable screen performances, her deliciously scandalous and stormy relationship with Madonna, her Off-Broadway one-woman shows and her self-acknowledged bisexuality. Yes, Miss Bernhard is a force to be reckoned with!

Dangerously witty, sarcastic and intelligent yet oddly romantic, this performance targets a wide range of topics from politics to pop culture to celebrities (Courtney Love, Rosie O’Donnell, Mariah Carey and Fleetwood Mac are just a few of her victims). Super-pregnant at the time of filming for her first Broadway show, the lady is armed and ready to take aim! If you're in the public eye (and just a wee bit pretentious), duck!

"A campy romp among swinging couples, Radley Metzger's 1973 movie is an early example of bisexual erotic film. Score may remind you of Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf - but here, the games are less traumatic and far sexier. Elvira and Jack bet on which of them can seduce a young innocent first.

..to the delights of (surprise!

The controversy: Lots of lesbians paying to have sex with a guy, which is nothing more than a heterosexual male fantasy.
Well-known lesbian author and sex educator Tristan Taormino, hired as a consultant by Lee (just as the Warchowski Brothers hired Susie Sexpert for Bound), defends the film, saying lesbians face a variety of options for getting pregnant. “ I can appreciate when lesbians say that they feel like they don’t see themselves, their lives, or their realities represented in this film, but I don’t think it is meant to represent all lesbians of color, all upwardly-mobile dykes, all lesbian moms, etc.

Everything told in the film has a slant or an angle. We never learn who our characters actually are, only what we see through the eyes of manipulative news reporters. Supporting characters play upon various politically incorrect stereotypes, like the African-American principal named "Onyx Blackman" or the very butch, innuendo-heavy gym coach Cherri Wolf. Hideous, trashy, and hilariously pushing the boundaries of sex and raunchiness as Comedy Central has oft been known to do, Strangers With Candy is not to be missed.

From its brilliant opening credit sequence, in which the cast of characters is introduced in clockwork miniature, you know that lesbian filmmaker Rose Troche’s latest film will be more than just another entry in the pantheon of films about ordinary suburban people living quiet lives of quiet desperation. No indeed, Troche covers this by now well-tread ground with a fresh perspective, imbuing her film with a surreal sense of otherworldliness and humor absent in such entries as American Beauty. In that opus, though a seductive sense of danger lurked beneath the veneer of lily white America, things really were all they seemed to be.

In this suburbia, as based on the writings of A.M. Homes, no one really fills their appointed roles very well.

To be sure, there are midlife crises and other petty banalities, but these are offset by things like illicit affairs between a single mother and a neighbor’s teenage son (who now lies in a vegetative state as a result of an accident), young boys who develop secret affairs with their sister's dolls, young girls who are more butch than their brothers and landscapers with a seemingly unhealthy regard for such tom-girls. Troche weaves back and forth between tragic past and dreaded future, at each step dipping just a bit further into her characters’ fractured lives.

This delightful and engaging Tony Award-winning two-hour, one-woman show can easily be considered Lily Tomlin's magnum opus. The show centers around Trudy the Bag Lady as she escorts a group of visiting aliens from outer space and attempts to enlighten them on human idiosyncrasies. Using this premise, Lily jumps from one character to another amazingly giving life -- without benefit of makeup or costume -- to such Tomlin creations as Chrissie, making time at her aerobics workout; the punked-out Agnes Angst on a memorable visit to Grandma and Grandpa's; a male weightlifter; streetwalkers Tina and Brandi who entertain the press; and, as the centerpiece of all of this, Lynn, Marge and Edie (a middle-class white woman, a black radical and a drunken feminist), who make their way through the '70s and the early days of the women's movement.

The best humor in the piece comes from Trudy, however, as she pontificates on her own unique brand of cosmology. Relying primarily on footage from the actual show, the film occasionally cuts to staged re-creations of the vignettes.

With a title like that, and know it's got to be campy. Made on a no-money budget, the tale features a detective who becomes involved with a strange group of blackmailers who run a white slavery ring. The top dog (and what a bitch!

) is this slinky blonde lesbian who, while not torturing victims, enjoys flings with her female followers. When she is accused of being sick, she retorts, "Is it I who is sick, or is it you, Mr. Man!

" You gotta love it.

Shakespeare's ribald tale of mistaken identity and transgendered hilarity is brought to the screen with verve and vigour by stage veteran Nunn and a splendid cast. Imogen Stubbs is Viola, a young maiden who, shipwrecked and separated from her identical twin brother, takes on the appearance of a man (Cesario) in order to win favor in the court of Orsino (Toby Stephens).

Orsino, it turns out, is intent on winning the love of Olivia (Helena Bohnam Carter), and Cesario takes on the call of winning her over on behalf of the moody prince. But, of course, people's affections fail to land on their intended targets and before long all-out farce rules the day. To top it all off, Olivia's maid Maria (Imelda Staunton) conspires with Sir Toby Belch (Mel Smith) to humiliate the steward Malvolio (a brilliant Nigel Hawthorne) by convincing him that he is the object of Olivia's fancy.

Ben Kingsley and Richard E. Grant round out the ensemble as the wandering storyteller Feste and the comic fop Sir Andrew Aguecheek, respectively.

Lots of critics love this film. Hilary and Chloe were nominated for Oscars. Boys Don't Cry was a big disappointment.

First, I should point out that I don't consider this a lesbian film: Brandon is portrayed as a woman who shouts "I'm not a lesbian!" and the entire story revolves around her unwillingness to accept her sexuality (she can't accept being female, never mind lesbian). The film stands as a cautionary tale against hating yourself, but that's it.

People in the audience were talking and yawning during the film. Do yourself a favour, watch the Brandon Teena story instead.
Chloe Seveigny said " I first met Kim (Pierce) when I went in to audition for Brandon and my agent set it up.

It was pretty much by the book. I went in, met with her, talked about the story and I'd known about it since, like, '96 maybe and talked about Brandon and Lana and girls wanting to be boys and this and that. She said, "Have you ever wanted to be a boy?

'Cause the girl who plays this part had at least this desire." I said, "No," I couldn't lie to her and, "maybe I should come back," and then I never came back in. I just got the part after lots of campaigning.

" Another wild film from Lynch which has a young aspiring actress getting involved with an amnesiac woman. Don't try to understand it: it's all a dream. Zoom in on the pillow, dream time.

The Cowboy says to wake up, it's time to wake up. I can't believe I missed a Buffy rerun for this.
If you are discussing this film with a stuffy, arrogant know-it-all, call the film a Mobius Strip of the subconscious, performance art that, because it's on tape, it's on tape (add the emphasis, just like in the movie), transcends live performance art, life itself, because it must be repeated, without variance, every time.

Although each time you watch it, it's different (raise your eyebrow here, smile knowingly and nod slightly as you reach for your drink). Wait for a response.
Note: do not confuse this with Mulholland Falls, which has a gay character.

Converted to Tickling" is part two of a three part series "Box of Laughter" exploring the often overlooked fetish of tickling. Some say originality is a sin, a deviance to be corrected. What could be a more original form of correction, or deviance for that matter, than tickling?

What could be a more sinful scenario than the nun meets the schoolgirl? Could it get any more sacrilegious? Come on though.

It's laughter we're talking about as punishment. That's not so bad. Or is it?

Perhaps it is...

If you are caught on the receiving end. It seemed innocent enough. A school girl.

A nun. The Act of Confession. A typical morning at parochial school, on the surface.

Look a little deeper. Imagine our mother superior pierced in places God might never suspect. Imagine our schoolgirl as not so innocent.

Our mother superior discovers our schoolgirl has been admiring other students at this fine girl's school and must pay for her sins. Now imagine how we punish naughty little girls in our tale of conversion. Tickling.

Winner of the1999 Director's Award at the San Diego Gay And Lesbian Film Video Festival, My Femme Divine takes us into the romantic world of butch and femme relationships. Part personal memoir and part documentary, the films draws from poetry, photography, discussion groups, and Jungian psychology to explore the butch/femme mystique.

Or, it's a crock of bullshit, with each woman looking for her 15 minutes of fame by playing up stereotypical, outdated roles. Your choice.

Queer As Folk is unquestionably the gay cultural phenomena of the new millennium.

The American Queer as Folk is set in a mythical Pittsburgh - it's not West Hollywood or the West Village - it's a blue collar city where gay people co-exist with straight - just like where most of us live (actually, a lot of it was filmed in Toronto, where the OutTakes headquarters are located). Lindsay (Thea Gill, the blonde) is the mother of young son, who she had via artificial insemination with one of the other main characters, Brian. She's a house mom who is dedicated to her baby and sometimes to her lover Melanie (Michelle Clunie, the brunette).
