Tiger loses wearing Championship Red, A-Rod s the paragon of clutch and Bernie Williams jams with the Allmans. Wait, that all sounds wrong. But that s what really happened on the weekend was that, and five nights after I stood second row, the Beacon got a shot of #51.

[img] This five-person band from Philly is one the perfect example of the emerging “post-jam scene [ed. note: HT does not endorse using the post-jam moniker, but we re too lazy to actually edit correctly].

Dr. Dog certainly doesn’t jam in the traditional sense, but they definitely rock in every way. I can only sum up their sound as a mix between Beatles-influenced indie rock and dirty southern rock-and-roll.

Johnny Damon s been out with a strained right calf. Hideki Matsui pulled his hammy trying to beat out a grounder. Chris Ray plunked Bobby Abreu in the knee before A-Rod s mammoth walk-off grand slam into the Stadium s famed black seats (sorry, African-American seats).

So the crowd couldn t help but chant aloud when Miguel Cairo trotted out to left field: We want Bernie and Bring back Bernie. Where have you gone Bernie Williams? A ballclub turns its lonely eyes to you.

The former centerfielder has been spotted, though it wasn t a clubhouse visit. Bernie sat in with the Allman Brothers Band [..

We reported the credible rumor yesterday that Larry McCray will step in as one of Phil Lesh s Friends at the super-stealth SOBs shows in New York this coming Monday and Tuesday. Well, it s time to make room for more Larrys: Campbell appears to be re-joining the band.

So much for Trey and Warren, eh? Campbell s website s straight out of 1996, but it s still got an updated latest news section, and today it divulges the following information: Larry will be joining Phil Lesh on April 9th and April 10th at SOB s in New York City. [img] [.

House Mixologist Dan Alford is away this week, so we ve turned to our ol pal Neddy for some downloadin love.

Neddy s offering for us features a little roots music focusing on the wond fully dynamic pedal steel guitar. [img] Before we get to that order of business, we d like to issue a serious note of thanks to the always awesome Felonius Monk for designing this department s new logo. I mean, check that shit out.

That s homemade genius. Many thanks, Monk. Kind Woman Buffalo Springfield: Retrospective Prison On Route 41 Calexico / Iron Wine: In [.

SB: I know the last time you guys played at a White Sox game, you guys got to meet Ozzie Guillen.

How did that happen? AF: He was just walking around as we were moving all our gear off of the field, as we had done a little acoustic thing before the game. I had some percussion stuff jacked up against the wall and he comes over to talk to us.

He s like Percussion? I like percussion. He knows Marc Quinones from the Allman Brothers.

Yeah, it was amazing because he knew specifics about Marc s setup. Ozzie was [..

[img] Each of Page s players pulled their weight, including a show of force by former Mike Gordon engineer Jared Slomoff. Some of you may think, Hey, you re gonna play with Mike s fucking dude and not Mike himself?

, but Slomoff did it all, playing electric piano, singing incredible harmonies and shredding key guitar solos. I m pretty sure this album and tour is Jared s first real gig, but he won t stay unknown for long. Ironically, he came into the Phish world due to his vast knowledge and expertise about film music is just a hobby for the guy.

It s time for a new hobby. [..

Rumors have been flying fast and furious about which musicians will round out Phil Lesh s lineup of Friends at the two stealth SOBs shows in New York next week. Trey Anstasio back-up singer Christina Durfee posted on her MySpace page that she ll be in the house that night, though she s since yanked down the entry.

That increased speculation that Big Red himself will be on stage with Phil, but now all signs are pointing to blues musician Larry McCray on at least one guitar spot. [img] According to the latest comments on McCray s MySpace page: Tomorrow Larry McCray [..

Mike Gordon is still missing. Ever since his buddy Trey informed us of Gordo’s supposed one-year hiatus from playing during his interview at the Y, Cactus has been noticebaly incommunicado.

Yet we haven’t heard anything from Mike himself, so HT opened the case to find our favorite afromulletted bassist. Maybe Gordo s hangin with the apostles on this Good Friday you tell us. [img] photo illustration by Neeko If you’ve seen Mike somewhere, please let us know.

“Where’s Cactus?” won’t rest until Gordo returns to the stage for a serious rock gig. Previously on Where s Cactus?

Wilco has announced some North American dates in June at some of the best venues in the country. The Pines in Northampton is one of the coolest places I ve ever seen a concert outdoors. The Count Basie Theater in Red Bank is another great room: They don t often have rock shows at the newly restored theater that was built in 1926.

Check out the dates, and check out today s batch o  links: The 2007 Newport Folk Festival has an eclectic lineup including the Allman Brothers Band, Rage s Tom Morello, Grace Potter, and Alison Krauss Sharon Jones will perform with Booker T. [..

It s almost official: Concert-promoting heady overlord Live Nation is one step closer to pulling off the completely unnecessary. The good people at Idolator ran a clever post today with the following picture taken from one of those cellular telephones with the cameras.

They re taking down the sign, and just six days from now, the un-brand new Fillmore New York at Irving Plaza will still(!) be open to the public. [img] There are purists and there are branders.

DUO ANNOUNCE VENUE CHANGE FOR APRIL 19th ACOUSTIC PERFORMANCES As many of you may or may not have heard, unfortunately, Tonic will be closing its doors for good on April 13th.

This means that we have to change the venue for the previously-scheduled Benevento/Russo Duo acoustic shows that were scheduled for April 19th at the venue. Thanks to our old friends at Rocks Off (link to www.rocksoff.

We are pleased to announce that we have moved the two acoustic shows (8pm and [...

10. Close But No Cigar - Straight Outta Lynwood (13th album) Starting off, we have a track off Al’s last album. No, it’s not a Bill Clinton tribute, but rather why Al would never marry Hillary.

Okay, it has nothing to do with any Clinton, but it’s pretty funny. If you thought Seinfeld was neurotic about women, wait til you hear Al. The video is actually done by the guy who brought you Ren Stimpy: 9.

HT Contributor  Eliot Glazer has tremendously terrible taste in music. But he’s an adroit wordsmith, and he’s gonna try to convince us that the bad is really good. Most of the time, duets tend to bomb.

That s not to say that duets are inherently bad, but there s no denying that two people performing together especially in pop music is likely to result less in the beauty of Endless Love and more in the horror of Celine Dion rocking out with Anastacia (um, who?). Todd Sheaffer s voice and guitar-playing forms an incredible base for a band.

Back in the day I saw From Good Homes on the H.O.R.

D.E. tour and really enjoyed Todd s performance.

Railroad Earth is made up of musicians who do an even better job of playing with and pushing Todd. The phrasings and tones that came from Sheaffer s guitar were unique and always kept me on my toes. Contrary to what I had heard, the band isn t straight-up bluegrass by any means: There were a few spacey jams, some tight improvisation, and even a few rockers.

Each member of the [...

Keith Richards ain t the only drugged-out rocker in the news this week Top-form junkie Pete Doherty posted a clip of his new tune online yesterday, and the reaction to KP Nuts has been mixed. But I think it s a cool tune, and I m always up for some underproduced, underground shit, especially when it involves Kate Moss. Check out the latest from the Babyshambles frontman: If you re interested in finding out more about how cool drug abuse can be, check out Rolling Stone s awesome feature piece on Doherty from last year.

Van Halen 2/11/83 DVD: [img] Van Halen was on the road for nearly all of 1982 as they supported their breakthrough album Diver Down. In 1983, the band took a break from the road, save a series of South American gigs at the beginning of the year. The DVD featured here is from a Pay Per View concert the band played in Buenos Aires, Argentina during that tour.

I learned it from snorting you! Turns out, Keith Richards longtime manager claims the skeletal rocker was totally kidding when he said I snorted my father.
