Reading junk mags in the bath, which is where I would live if I had my druthers (I think Gwyneth Paltrow was on to something brilliant in her depressed turn as Margot Tannenbaum, who put a TV in so she could soak ad infinitum), I decided what I wanted to be when I grow up. Or rather whom. I want to be Estonian model Carmen Kass, specifically Kass in the ''boyfriend pants'' ad for Gap.

There comes a time in a young woman's life when she must abandon girlish crushes in favour of stability. A grown-up relationship is what she needs, one that offers real support, and around which she can build a home. Unlike the passing fancies of youth, this love will stay put, immovable, a bastion of solidity in a world of flux.

I was in New York last week for a couple of days -- most of the trip spent watching the Anna Nicole Smith death show on CNN at LaGuardia (okay, I want a DNA test; I'm the father). Thanks to now customary delays with no ascertainable weather problem (one friend recently was informed by Air Canada staff that the cause of her New York-Toronto delay was that the plane was ''broken''), the one-hour flight from Toronto took six. Jean RenoThe most successful celebrity product lines have one thing in common: a good fit.
Jessica Simpson and hair extensions, for example. Jennifer Lopez and sultry perfumes. Beyonce and slightly slutty clothes.
And now, Jean Reno and eyeglass frames. Actually, the French actor (you know him as the guy with the accent in films such as Mission: Impossible, The Da Vinci Code and The Professional) has been the face of the Jean Reno by Cendrine O frame collection for the past four years (it's big in France). The line is just now launching in Canada, in Quebec only, natch.

We are puzzled by a strange trend in fragrance. Brands often release both a boys' and girls' version of a fragrance at the same time; nothing weird there.
The mystery is in why we are liking the boys' versions so much better. Why do women have to be sweet while men get to be fresh? We worship, for example, Terre d'Hermes, a woodsy man's fragrance that redefines unisex (a previous bad trend in perfume from the cKOne years).

''People keep asking me what the ''must-have' piece for fall is, and I'm not sure there is one,'' Hollywood stylist Phillip Bloch confessed as he cozied up to me in Oscar de la Renta's front row. ''There just seems to be a lot of what women already have.

Chinese New Year, which takes place this weekend, is the most important of the traditional Chinese holidays. It's a time for family to come together, much like Christmas in North America. And just like that holiday, a big meal is an important part of the festivities.

More than two decades have passed since the Commodore 64 and IBM PC unceremoniously dethroned the manual typewriter as the world's word machine of choice. But while only hard-core typists continue to hammer the keys on a regular basis, others are acquiring vintage typewriters for their iconic value.

In the ''Blood and Guts'' section of his bestselling Les Halles Cookbook, celebrity chef Anthony Bourdain raves about the French version of blood sausage.''Good boudin noir is some of the best eating on Earth,'' he writes.
''But you're not making boudin noir. I'm not making boudin noir. Unless you live on a farm, slaughter your own pigs, and know how to make sausages, you'll likely have to buy it.
