Tarleton State's Shraddhanjali Singh shot a second-round 80 Tuesday for a 12-over-par total of 158 to edge Chico State's Denise Canadas by one shot and win the two-day, nine-team Lady Otter Invitational hosted by Cal State Monterey Bay. Canadas, the individual runner-up, finished with an 85 and helped the Wildcats take second place, 14 shots behind first-place Tarleton State (Texas), which totaled 651. Chico State's Molly Parsons closed with an 83 and tied for seventh at 167.
Teammate Julia Hood (85) tied for ninth another shot back, and Erin Sears (87) tied for 14th at 171. Chico State finished fifth out of 10 teams in Patterson with 914 strokes over three rounds, while Sacramento State won the event. Ryan Trask closed with a 75 for eighth place at 222 for Chico State.
Danny Clayton (75) tied for 21st, Andrew Sanchez (80) tied for 25th, Greg Marskey (81) tied for 29th, and Nick Green (79) tied for 33rd. Butte finished fourth with 395 strokes in the fifth conference tournament of the season at Bidwell Municipal Golf Course, while Sierra won at 378. Butte's Luke Barnum was the co-medalist with a 1-under 71.
Also scoring for the Roadrunners, fifth overall in the conference, were Nick Sanregret (77), Tim Marskey (78) and Nick Spiess (82). Jeffrey Maehl hit a go-ahead two-run home run in the third inning and the Bobcats
The host Panthers (7-5) led 4-2 until the Bobcats (5-8) knocked in a pair of runs in the top of the seventh inning to draw even. That set up the theatrical finish for Carriere, a junior catcher whose homer was her first on the varsity level. Courtney Spencer provided the early offense for Chico, going 2-for-3 with two RBIs.
Lindsay von Moos pitched a five-hitter to outduel Oroville's Alicia Logasa, who allowed six hits in Oroville. Von Moos had five strikeouts, three walks and two hit batters for Pleasant Valley (8-4, 1-0 Eastern Athletic League). Kelsey Mansfield went 2-for-3 with a double.
Karly Burns had three hits for Champion (5-1, 2-0 North Valley League), and Kayla Mansfield went 2-for-4 with a double. Becca Elliott pitched a five-inning no-hitter, struck out six and walked two for the Warriors, and went 2-for-4 at the plate. Bencia Grace had two doubles and three RBIs for Mercy (1-2-1, 1-0 Mid-Valley League North), Alyssa Fry added two hits and two RBIs and Morgan Fry also had two hits.
Bree Dodson and Kaia Kehoe scored early to give the Panthers a 2-0 halftime lead, and solid play by back-line defenders Nathalie Cuellar, Laura Gaffney, Alyce Haley and Julia Kasza helped preserve the Eastern Athletic League triumph. Kayla Naron added a third score off an assist from Kealan Cronin for Chico (8-0-2, 3-0) in the second half to pad the lead against the Bobcats (2-3, 0-3). Lindsey Smith and Jennifer Lopez each scored a goal for Pleasant Valley (5-6-1, 1-1-1 Eastern Athletic League) in a tie on the road in Redding.
Kham Lee, Brandon Fricke, Justin Martin and Takuya Kameyama also won in straight sets for Pleasant Valley (5-4, 3-1 Eastern Athletic League). Lonnie Shea helped PV sweep the doubles also. Skyler Boles at No.
1 and Evan Montz at No. 2 both swept their singles matches 6-0, 6-0, and also provided Chico (6-0, 4-0) with a 10-1 win in No. 1 doubles.
Yang Xiong's 6-0, 6-3 win over Ravi Kang in the No. 1 singles match led the Honkers' charge in their Sacramento Valley League-opening shutout of Live Oak. Also notching singles victories for Willows (5-1) were Richard Xiong, Andy Martin, Brandon Boyd, Walter Michaels and Lang Lee.
The doubles teams of Richard Xiong and Martin, Yang Xiong and Boyd, and Lee and Kong Moua helped Willows win its fifth consecutive match.
