Someone with better photoshop skills and more time on their hands than me should really do a "separated at birth" with tonight's version of Sanjaya and El DeBarge.edit: Also, while on the topic of "Idol", what is it with Haley's make up that always makes it look like she's got a five o'clock shadow all around her eyes from about the top of her cheekbones to just below her eyebrows?

I did not know that among the many Brady Bunch "reunions" over the years, there was a 1990 DRAMA series that involved all of the original cast except for Maureen McCormick (Marcia). Below the cut, I give you the IMDB plot summaries for the first (all?) six episodes of "The Bradys".

"As it happens, conveniently enough, Haggard can currently be seen in theaters in the documentary "Jesus Camp". I have faith we have an unbelievably ironic clip of that."Aug.

. The free download service (and Universal gets a cut of this, I presume) will make it's money off of, you guess it, advertising.
Is it 1999 all over again?

So, just to clarify...
I really do mean the kids when I refer to the straightedge kids. I liked 's comment in that regard.
On the religion thing, I don't mean the theology or dogma, just the unthinking, repressive morality.
You couldn't hardly tell the lifestyles of these kids from their mormon or southern baptist parents.
I would say there's some similarity in my background and 's, so I get her idea of not feeling there was much that was romantic or whatever about wasting your talent in drug or alcohol abuse, etc.
edit: As a further comment let me say that I never had any problems with folks choosing not to drink or do drugs.
I never really had any problem with any vegetarian who wasn't evangelistic about it. I can't quite say the same about vegans, but that's largely because I think there are damn few vegans under the age of 25 or 30 who don't fit the pop culture stereotype of a PETA activist. Of course, the teenage guys who claimed to be "choosing" celibacy, I mocked mercilessly.
I don't wanna accuse the whole world of straightedge guys of falling into this narrow gap, but the ones I knew as a teenager (whether local or kids who came to FSU from somewhere else) or in my early 20s couldn't have got laid without paying for it. The one exception was a guy named Seth who came out as gay the fall after he graduated from high school. Once he came out, he was an awesome guy to hang out with.
I don't think you have to be freud to figure out that claiming celibacy was an easy excuse to keep away the girls that he just wasn't interested in.

I thought about trying to phrase this question in a delicate, moderate, considerate way because I'm pretty sure I've got a few ex-straightedge kids on my list. But, really, there's no nice way to ask this question.
sXe
Was there any time or place where the straightedge kids weren't total pussies?
It was probably the best legal drama on the air right now. So, of course, it was cancelled after one 13 episode season.
I really don't know why I bother watching anything that airs on Friday nights.
I should disallow recording of any series that airs on Friday by my DVR. This is where the networks send good tv shows to die.

I have a lot of "greatest hits" type compilations (formal or not) on my mp3 player. There are a lot of artists that I'm not crazy about, but have a few songs I like. Often, the greatest hits compilation is way more than I need.I tend to forget I even have these things until they show up when I've got the player on random. Today, I got an Ozzy Osbourne song. I'm not really a fan, but this particular song I really love.
It's called "Miracle Man". I'm sure that much of my fondness for it is that it was written as a direct response to Jimmy Swaggart's and then released as a single with the full promotional bang of whatever record company Ozzy was with at the time. It was in pretty heavy rotation on MTV for an actual metal song when it came out.
The mocking derision in Ozzy's voice whenever he says "Jimmy Sinner" is a true joy to hear.

The Chili Peppers' performance of Dani California on SNL was a bit better than the song sounds on record, but it's still a boring, calculated radio hit kind of song.
Their performance of "Give It Away" was a better indicator of what they're capable of. For me, though, they peaked with "Mother's Milk". I love that album and I like the ones before it better than the ones after it, as a rule.
I kind of hate to say this, but the pattern I've picked up on with them is that their music is boring when they're sober. Everytime they come out with an album that I really like, one of them ends up in rehab within a year or two of its release.

The Firm has one redeeming feature to it. Near the end, you get to watch Tom Cruise beat the ever loving shit out of Wilford Brimley. That's worth the price of admission, which, in this case was free.

09:29 pm - Last night's (Tuesday's) American Idol
There were only two performances that I thought were good. Elliot was no surprise. Bucky was a surprise. He picked a good song for his voice and a song that didn't require a Freddie Mercury like amazing vocal range to do well.
Paris was pretty good.
I thought just about everyone else sucked.
Normally, I'm a huge Katharine McPhee booster, but I think she was the biggest disappointment last night. Her song was boring, predictable, and more like she was singing another stupid Mariah Carey or Celine type of ballad than a Queen song. Atrocious.
I'm sick of Chris. He ruined one of my favorite Queen songs by re-arranging it into the same modern rock crap that all sounds just alike that he always does. I think he is completely and utterly a one trick pony.
It's a trick that might make him some money and score him a couple of big albums, but it's one trick. He lacks depth and versatility, but I expect him to make it to the final three, maybe going all the way.

The thing that makes me mad about this is what Rollins says at the end. Those are exactly the reasons why someone like him should go into politics. Those are exactly the reasons why we need more smart, articulate people who don't wanna be career politicians in office.Apr. 4th, 2006

Vincent D'onofrio and John Leguizamo in this lunchtime episode of Miami Vice. I'm perpetually amazed at the then undiscovered talent that shows up as guest stars in this show.Feb. 28th, 2006

Halfway into season 3 of Miami Vice and we start to see why this show went from being the coolest show on earth for two years into limping along just long enough to make the profitable-for-syndication 100 episode mark. This episode ("Streetwise") has the plusses of Bill Paxton as a vice cop who gets busted with his 17 year old hooker girlfriend, Wesley Snipes as a pimp named Silk, and Saundra Santiago stuffed into the tightest dress imaginable.
Twenty minutes in, that stuff doesn't even come close to balancing out the horrible opening sequence where Olivia Brown as Trudy in undercover streetwalker garb is forced to lip sync the background monologue in the unbelievably bad Don Johnson song that gave the episode its title. Michael Mann must've been working on Crime Story by now. The dialogue is weak, the story lame, cliched, and remarkably similar in some themes to the episode two weeks back.
Even without the pop culture passions of the moment, the switch to darker colors (clearly also inspired by crime story) in lieu of the pastels of the first two seasons is just kind of ugly. Maybe less tacky, but also far less interesting and fun.
