2:45 p.m. - A 21-gun salute is given for Shelton at his burial ceremony.
2:19 p.m. - Darrell Bonapart, President of the Charlotte East Community Partners, announces on WCNC a solidarity march to be held tomorrow in East Charlotte in memory of the two slain officers.
The march will start at 10:00 a.m. at the Shamrock Methodist Home Park.
Over 1000 residents are expected, and all are invited to attend.

- The last car of the procession passes down Sharon Amity Rd., about two miles from the cemetery.

m. - As the procession continues to arrive at the cemetery, rows of officers stand before the burial site with their hands uniformly behind their backs, awaiting the ceremony.

When he put on his uniform, he was like Superman, said Chickoree. I can't believe they would pay me to have this much fun, Shelton would say of his police job. In my book he was a cop's cop, said Chickoree of his former colleague.
11:59 a.m. - Johns speaks about Shelton's passion to his calling : to serve as a police officer.
11:51 a.m. - Rev.
Johns opens the pastoral comments and prayer. Johns reads from 1 Corinthians 13, then shares comments from Shelton's wife. He had the biggest sense of humor, and the biggest heart, said Shelton's wife of her husband.
11:45 a.m. - Rock Hill Officer John Rainier opens the personal reflections of Shelton.
Rainier expressed his eternal gratitude to Shelton and his wife for their kindness towards Rainier's daughter. Speaking on behalf of Shelton's dedication to his job, Rainier adds, Jeff was a warrior at his core. Struggling through tears, Rainier speaks about the loss of his friend, and commits the police force to look over Shelton's wife.
In parting I want Jennifer to know I will always be there or you and the 'Thin Blue Line' will be there for you, said Rainier.

- Police Chaplain Bill Fogarty opens his greeting by saying, We are not here to focus on tragedy -- we are here to celebrate victory.

- Rev. Raymond Johns opens the funeral with scripture and prayer.

m. - With a seating capacity of over 5,000, there is not an empty seat to be found in Calvary Church as the funeral begins.

m. - The Charlotte Fire Department Pipe and Drum Band enters the church. Formed in 2001, the band practices for two years before playing their first ceremony.
Amazing Grace can be heard from the bagpipes.

- Friends and family of Shelton, continue to enter, sitting in the front rows around Shelton's wife.

- Shelton's wife, Jennifer, enters the church. Her husband's casket, now in the front of the church, is adorned by a United States flag, surrounded by pictures commemorating Shelton's life.

m. - The organ continues playing as the final gatherers enter the church. The 11,499 pipe organ is one of the twenty largest in the world.

- A program for Shelton's funeral service gives a brief detail on his life. Shelton was born in Fayetteville, and graduated from Monroe High School. A natural athlete growing up, Shelton played soccer, baseball, and football for Monroe High.
A big fan of NASCAR, Shelton also loved hiking and the outdoors. He was well known for his willingness to help others. Shelton had been attending Stanly Community College at the time of his death.
He is survived by his wife Jennifer, his mother Diane, and his father John and his wife Wanda and two brothers and a sister. Shelton is being buried with both police and military honors.
