Ohh dear lord Ministry is back wait that sounded kind of blasphemous, maybe that s just me, any way encase you don t know, Ministry is a Industrial Rock/Metal band, i say Industrial because they pretty much created the genre (even though they didn t run with it), well before I start ranting about Rio Grande Blood, I ll just add that although I m somewhat a fan , i was never engaged by Ministry, the music is overly simplistic for my personal taste, it s weird since i tend to think of them as a great band
So let s get into it with Rio Grande Blood , after some silly George Bush Jr speech, we get into it, ohhh how some things change and how other things stay the same, i think the drum machine and guitar sounds exactly the same as it was 10 years ago, pristine hehehe, filled with samples, and some shouting vocals from Al, this is some old school Ministry, with some twists and turns and a pretty interesting guitar solo, not bad at all, then comes Señor Peligro and again a bit of the same, it actually builds up really well to a hardcorish trashy metal, that finishes interestingly again with a funky guitar solo, good one, Gangreen starts up with some marine inspired drill until it goes on Ministry mode, damn even the double bass seems old school, don t know if it s on purpose but it actually sounds great, but the song although funky it s basically a continuous 6 min loop, then comes up Fear (Is Big Business) and its a slow burn industrial track well until it goes into a thrash overdrive.
Lies Lies Lies is another hardcorish track with a lot of sound samples, a bit predictable and with a over-abuse of the obvious chorus, well The Great Satan is next and it s an ok track, Ministry styled blasting and guitar work, Yellow Cake is a distorted sampled track, if the use of distorted sound wasn t so overused, it would have been better, Palestina is a bit more of the same, not bad, just the same thing, then Ass Clown starts up slow to a more eclectic track with a nice groove to it and another great guitar solo, seems the good tracks are the ones with a solo just coincidence i guess, Khyber Pass wraps things up and quite nicely i might say with a large build up with a female vocal under a toned down beat to a Ministry groove, then mixing the two things together (predictable are we), so that s about it.
Oh I might be getting mellow or something, but it s actually not as bad as i was thinking, sure it tends to drag and the fact that it feels like looped/sampled/drum-machine music doesn t help, ohh and all the Anti-Bush Anti-War stuff is fine and dandy but all the way trough the album the same old theme and the same sounding music tends to drag (deja-vu anyone?
), well this one is difficult, i would say if your a fan, check it out, its worth it, if your not, then go watch a movie or something heheh
With my last surge throughout the bowls of , i guess it was time to talk about Kylesa, they play a more by the numbers form of Sludge, truer to the purest form of Sludge, mixing in some way , and , with a couple of twists and turns in between. So what Time Will Fuse Its Worth is all about?
After a smallish Intro , you get right to the heart of it with What Becomes An End , shouting vocals, dual guitars, and the weird production, it sounds and feels like hardcore punk, nevertheless it shifts and turns into something else, more like instead of playing straight Sludge, they play all the genres in separate, because even though I m trying to fit this into a genre, they are crossing a lot of them, musically speaking it s quite well played and interesting, Hollow Severer is one groovy track, starts and works its way in with shouting vocals and sludge like riffing, great track, Where The Horizon Unfolds starts a bit slow, but when it gets on going, it gets going (almost in a kind of way), solid track.
Between Silence and Sound is what i could call a pseudo-intermission, it s a short instrumental/short music, it s actually a good mix, then you get Intermission and it is what it is a intermission, mostly a drumming workout, not bad and not too big, but after the last one it s kind of weird, Identity Defined is a speedier track, opening up to a experimental doom track, with some psycho guitar work, just like in the 60 s, Stoner Metal all the way, and not bad at all, Ignoring Anger and The Warning are straight to school, sludge metal, another pair of great tracks, building up to the finisher Outro that just shows off the double drumming.
Well, it seems they do have 2 drummers, not to put it down, but the single Mastodon drummer, brings more speed, twists and turns, more overall quality and originality, I don t understand very well the 2 drummers thing, i hope its not to just show off (or i hope not), since i wouldn t classify the drumming as one of their stronger features, being those the shouting 3 way diverse vocals and the guitar work, oh well its a interesting album nevertheless, but if i had to choose, i would put Mastodon and first, but if your into Sludge you might want to check them out.
play a interestingly mix variety of music, i would put them in the alternative/progressive metal/rock arena, close in resemblance with what excel at, maybe a bit less overwhelming, i don t know if i would fit it into the category as well, nevertheless loads of skill and sprinkles of loads of genres popping in and out, so how does Void fit into this?
A Monumental Vulgarity opens the show, and what a show, after a smallish intro your just thrown into the groove, sounds and plays out like a Mastodon track, but with a little bit more taste for the eccentric (like Mastodon isn t eccentric enough), it s harsh vocals, it s a constantly changing musical landscape, but all in the same logical sound structure, they are not stopping and playing another thing, they are just changing and mixing the same stuff in an unorthodox fashion, refreshing and not so much Mastodon, the resemblances are mostly in how it all sounds, Gleamer (that one you can listen downstairs ^~) is another groovy track, jazz like drumming, with a lot of things thrown into the mix, one thing that starts to show is the bass work, that almost rivals the drumming/guitar, impressive, and infections, plus a full minute in the end of nothing especial, weird.
Fault Lines has another minute long intro into this one, nice way to put a intermission, but when it enters high gear you can feel it, this one is a hit hard, soft, hit hard kid of thing, building to a interesting finish, Nostalgic Echo gets another rock like intro to another groove oriented almost sludge track, again with clean passages building up to funky metal sections, Teledildonics first of all that s one funny named track, next, it s probably the best track in the album, how s that for building word of mouth , basically it sounds like Meshugah if they were playing this kind of music, point blank, impressive, sure it has some clean parts, but that seems to be their thing, Iceblocks has another almost 2 minute intermission before it gets into overdrive, again good track, last track Rise to the Midden , is a good last track, wraps it up nicely, it s hard, it s groovy, it is quirky, great stuff.
Intronaut hummm, well it s difficult to say if i really like it, sure it has a lot of things that one can headbang to, Teledildonics being one of them hahaah yeah headbang to that, and overall it is an impressive album, nonetheless it isn t a relentless kind of thing, it has a lot of clean passages, and a lot of slow alternative rock twists, that although a clear sign of technical ability, they do hurt the pace of the album, in the third listen i kinda while skipping the end of Gleamer , skipped Fault Lines as well, just because i though it was too early to such a long intermission, sorry guys, i wanted Teledildonics as soon as possible, wait that didn t sounded that good, heheh great job, if your into Mastodon or even the likes of or , you should check them out, I m sure everyone will enjoy some Teledildonics .
Opening track Goatcraft Torment starts up with This is Satanic Black Metal , so i guess they play ? good to know, i won t have to spend a couple of minutes figuring out what the heck are they playing, not that i have anything against black metal or now that i think of it Satan, i just think that s silly to coin yourself from the get go, does it mean that all the tracks will be about Satan? like ahh Satan took a shower GRRR and ate some infidels christians for breakfast YARRR wait, now that i think of it .
that would be cool, well let s head back to s Goatcraft Torment .
Goatcraft Torment starts with that amusing This is Satanic Black Metal , i don t know if that was the objective, but i find it amusing, tha and lyrics like like die for satan , maybe it s me but who said that Satan cares, maybe if Urgehal says so, it must be true, hehehe, ok, ok i ll stop with the funny business, music wise this is some well crafted black metal, i like the production, it s clean and to the point, Risus Sardonius is again a solid track, with loads of blasting, Antireligiøs is again blasting black metal, great guitar work, and it seems they don t just love Satan, they hate everyone else s religion , Dødsmarsj Til Helvete is a bit more straight black metal track, slower pace but nice nevertheless.
Satanic Black Metal In Hell bring the blasting back with vengeance, it s straight to fucking hell, i liked this one, Nefastus Nex Necis is actually the first classic black metal in the album, with all those nice touches, you know that eerie feel through, slightly melodic, short pattern blast, talking speed harsh vocals, with a touch of guitar solo, again a great track, Gathered Under The Horns is a another evil black metal track, with nice little touches that keep it fresh and moving, Selvmordssalme seems like the continuation of the later track, Sentiment Of Chaos brings the blasting and a bit heavier attitude, the last track Et Steg Nærmere Lucifer closes shop, it s slow and methodic, i wouldn t expect it any other way.
This is one kick ass album, loads of pace throughout, i know Urgehal have been around for ages, and the fact that they stick to their guns and drop quality material is always a good thing, they really loving Satan (and all that sodomy, children bashing, torture, general violence, you know all that great evil stuff Satan apparently endorses) doesn t seem to influence too much on the quality of the music, and that s for me the most important aspect, because this is solid black metal album, hell even though I m not that much into black metal this one had me headbanging a couple of times.
Why Amoral?, Well because I ve just talked about Scar Symmetry, and although they have a lot in common they are two very different breeds, both i would call melodic death metal, although in this case Amoral go for a more technical death metal/thrash combo that gives a bit more bite and interest, and downplaying all the way the melodic part, that s all good, but how good is Decrowning
Pretty good, from the get go with Showdown you know were they stand, like i said above a technical trash/death combo, although in a very groovy blasting kind of way, quite the we are in a hurry to finish this song kind of thing, in a good way, this is a powerhouse of a track, heaviness and aggression is the name of the game, good for them, and better for me, Lacrimal Gland starts off again with another groovy death metalish riffage, this has some kicks ass guitar work, very good, title track Decrowning doesn t fall to short of expectations, straightforward kick and easy, solid death track.
Tiebreaker stars off and goes almost all the way through with some incredible guitar work, very impressive with some like pre- . thing, just simpler and with more pace (maybe my favorite track, i like them short and sweet), Drug of Choice is thrash, almost straight up, Denial 101 is again a strong track, plays like a hardcore track, with some crazy guitar solos, Control Cancer is some fucked up track, with some delayed riff, it s good but it feels a bit cut and paste kind of thing, good track nevertheless, shows a lot of skill, hell if they can make even this not so good track sound this good, then they must be doing something right, Raptus is another short and sweet blasting all the way through into a another funky guitar solo, nice, Warp is a short instrumental, nothing much, maybe it s suppose to be the intro the final track Bleeder , that brings more of that Meshuggah kind of pre-D.E.
I. riffing, ugly and heavy, just the way i like it (wasn t it short and sweet?).
Did i say melodic, i meant to say freakin awesome, yeah the sweetness of the guitars bring it into the melodic section, it s not straight death, but this is no Killswitch Engage/In Flames kind of thing, this is straight death/trash, great guitar work, solid all round album, i enjoyed the hell out of this one, go check it out.
hail from Sweden and as you would expect they play a by the numbers , the only difference between them and the rest of the pack is that they go to an extreme, from a guttural neck breaking death metal to hyper melodic clean vocals, in a world where melodic death metal is synonymous with and , were the formula is almost to shout your way through to a clean vocal chorus, it s actually refreshing to see a band play death metal with melody, so let s have a look at what Pitch Black Progress has to offer.
It all starts off with The Illusionist and starts off very well, kind of slowish, building up to a -like guttural vocals, damn if it s not hard, and damn if the clean vocals aren t crisp like hell, to the highest end of melody, it s quite compelling, great chorus and some electronic and simple solo to the mix, great first track, then comes up Slaves to the Subliminal and again you get that voice, damn they play fine death but that voice is fucking powerful, especially because you get that sweet melodic contrast, and it s a big contrast, fantastic catchy chorus, and again some guitar solos, it seems their formula is to go back and forth between the high ends (guttural/clean) all the way through, that just emphasis s the sense that they are on high ends, he must suffer like hell singing this stuff, since he switches like 6 times per track-
Mind Machine is slower paced track, even not to the standard of the last 2, it s still quite catchy, Pitch Black Progress is just the death metal part, freaking breaking all the way through, a fuck melody kind of track the chorus just raises the heaviness, Calculate the Apocalypse sounds like old school Fear Factory, with it s hookiness, the melodic chorus comes from nowhere and you get a sorta 8bit solo from the guitars, nice work, and nice track, Dreaming 24/7 plays and works like a standard melodic death metal track, but shit you not, the played down music just boosts the vocals even more, Abstracted is loads of fun, the vocalist somewhat changes his guttural voice to a speedier version, i guess for a speedier track, it doesn t hit the spot but its fun nevertheless, ohhh and maybe it has the best guitar solo on the album.
The Caleidoscopic God is another twist, instead of going for the death metal, they go to a mixture of speed/thrash metal and it fucking rocks or should i say metals, about half way through you get into the what the fuck part, when they start adding hardcore, heavy metal, guitar solos great track, even though you could make 2 tracks from it, Retaliator sounds a bit like hardcorish/punk mixed with death, with shouted vocals, but again the chorus is catchy like hell, Oscillation Point is the opposite of Pitch Black Progress , with a slower pace and mostly clean vocals, really nice, and again a over the top melodic chorus, with a sweet guitar solo, again an excellent track, The Path of Least Resistance again back to the groovy death metal, it probably has the catchiest chorus, Carved in Stone is probably the weakest track, it just doesn t engage me, Deviate From The Form is the last track, sounds like a mixture of power metal and death metal with quite a extensive use of electronics, again not that great, but not to the point of disappointment, and that s it, the album is done.
After listening a couple of times to the album i think i will never look back to melodic death metal the same way, i think Scar Symmetry take the genre to another level, by i guess, taking it literally, the name of the game is Melodic Death Metal, so i would expect to listen to melody and to listen to death metal, not unlike other bands on the genre that play a washed up repeated to exhaustion, here you have melodic death metal like it s meant to be played (like if Nile decided to start playing melodic death metal), the added brushes with other genres to spice things up is just an added bonus, so if your into melodic death metal you have to listen to Scar Symmetry latest, you don t know what you ve been missing.
From sea huntin to mountain tracking, what can i say, new album from Mastodon, incase you don t know , let me tell you, the name fits the music, their sound is like the , you know, big and hairy, scary tusks, well they play a kind of band, that mix loads of different genres and styles, from / to , from to , from to , with memorizing odd ball jazz like drumming (their best feature in a long list of excellent features) and complex heavy guitar riffing, so a new album is here Blood Mountain , I m wondering how it will fare against their critically acclaimed ( ) last album Leviathan .
Gee, like with a couple of other bands, it s difficult to talk about every single track, since they are so diverse. but I ll give a go, The Wolf is Loose starts things off, and actually sounds a bit like a track from their last album, fast paced thrashing, really catchy, yeah i should note that most Mastodon tracks are above all else really catchy, not because of lyrics or chorus, but because of the drumming and riffage, now back on track with Crystal Skull , now this is a bit different, but again very close to the sound of Leviathan, with that freaky astounding drumming from hell and the groovy guitar work, Sleeping Giant is something new, again a Mastodon like delivery, slow paced track beautifully carved from progressive metal, eerie
Capillarian Crest is like a mix and mash of genres, never letting down always throwing new stuff in, always in that neat Mastodon technical package, mind blowing track, Circle of Cysquatch brings us back to more heavy stuff, drumming going all over the place and a really hookie riffage and a hardcore finisher, just bring it home, Bladecatcher is a pure instrumental track and it doesn t fail, funky as shit, Colony of Birchmen is slower paced, with a freaky chorus, even though in parts sounds like a mixture between power metal and progressive rock, it s actually again a very enticing track.
Hunters of the Sky is one of those experimental groove tracks, chorus is catchy as hell, Hand of Stone is an already a classical Mastodon delivery with loads of different things popping up everywhere This Mortal Soil has a bit of an intro into a what i can only describe as some kind of progressive rock, kinda weird, Siberian Divide continues with this end of the album eerie feeling, just now with a bit more bite, Pendelous Skin is the last track and again a instrumental, completely the opposite from the first one, this one sounds like the sound of the air rushing through the mountains, building up to a music resembling some distorted Soundgarden track, very eerie, sounds like the guy climbing the mountain got himself screwed or eaten by bears.
Mastodon is Mastodon, and as one can expect they delivered, changing to a doesn t seem to affect them too much, also i might point that again like in the album Leviathan , Blood Mountain is a concept piece, with a back story, and therefore it all makes even more sense, great album, even better delivery, if you like good, strange, hard music, you have a obligation to check this out.

hail from Norway and therefore they play . ?
well they do throw in Death/Black/Industrial and of course some symphonic touches, mostly through the piano/violin combo, that and the dual vocals (harsh male/clean female), do create a Progressive metal kind of fusion, seems people are calling it (or Schizo Metal/Experimental Metal), so let s just have a look at Escape .
Well it all starts off with R.I.
P. , and goddamn if it s not a fantastic track, it starts with a Gothic like female serenade, then you are hit by that death metal/harsh vocals/clean vocals groove combo, followed by a violin guitar passage to another death metal section that just pours down to a piano female clean vocals, that builds to a metal spree/clean female vocals, and then back on the death harsh vocals than back onto the violin passage, then . and we are just half way through the first song, suffice to say you get a what the fuck moment 3 quarters way through, with a guitar solo/piano building up to a Gothic we are all going to die kind of thing, brilliant.
Am i going to review all the other tracks just like that, well no, but i can tell you that Queen is the single i think, it s kinda nice, but it s more for commercial play, The Claustrophobic Journey is really a groovy track and the first with really good pace (they do have a tendency to stop and start playing something else, then stop again and play another thing, like in the first track), Sound of Tranquility Peace? is a good track as well, The Seeker is a beautiful track, death metal almost all the way through interchanging with calmer moments for the female vocals, and half way through, it has what i could describe as some kids toy like a sponge ball sound playing, and then some i don t know what that sound is, calming down near the end to build up to some funky death on the end, again great.
Pray is the death/gothic track, really nicely put and actually the most approachable on the track, again a beautiful heavy track uhhh I m Not Dead is is a a pure mind bender, freaky and spooky, and heavy as shit, with a lot of bass work and it finishes perfectly, finally the last track The Moment She Died , and damn me if it s not the perfect finishing track, heavy and unexpected, groovy as shit, finishes about 2 thirds in with a lot of strange sounds.
Ram-zet is one of the reasons i really enjoyed Unexpect, it has the same vibe, of experimentation, i can assure everyone, this is one hell of an album, sure it s not perfect, but production is great, there is stuff for everyone (death/gothic/whatever) to enjoy, its a load of fun to listen, much more approachable than Unexpected, and i do love the clean female vocals, the violin work and the guitar work, hell everything was top notch, i know they have another album out (for like a year), but i still don t have it, and i do really like this album, I ll check the other one when i can get my hands on it, but for now, go and check this one out, please pretty please.
This guys have shit, point blank simple, this A Desperate Man s Diaries from is a pearl in a sea of fucking mediocrity, I m getting a bit ahead of myself, Glass Casket play . hummm i would say some form of eccentric Death Metal, because they cross a lot of borders, like Hardcore, Grindcore and a lot of bits from here and there.
After a sissy intro we get into the groove of it all with Too Scared to Live (actually the featured track as well, so go check it out) and damn if it s not just a a nice piece of music, smooth going in smooth coming out, by smooth i mean freakin awesome, well it starts off with some death grind, followed by some more straight Metalcore style rockin, then it speeds up again to a hardcore breakdown, then some more slowed down Metalcore to some off the wall guitar solo.. well i think so, i didn t expect that shit, great stuff, it brings you to guitar solo followed by another hardcore one/two, great track, its a great combination of old school death/hardcore but with a different structure for added freshness, this track sums really well the rest of the album.
I can point out tracks Less Like Human or A Cork Stops the Whining or Post Traumatic Death for the solo work, hell this album is a dream come true for a lover of guitar solos, it has shitloads i mean really a lot of funky guitar solos, i actually went and checked the guitarists (found out that a couple of the members are actually members of ), guitar solos and Hardcore breakdowns, you gotta love them both.
So Glass Casket is closer to 3 feet under? Humm, shit no, i liked this one, it sounds fresh, it has a lot of different stuff thrown into the mix, sure it lags in some places, it still has a lot of Hardcore/Grind and that always makes things a bit tiresome, but in my opinion, removing the first and last track (mostly filers than really something interesting), this is a great album and i can recommend to anyone that likes Death Metal, Metalcore or Hardcore, or in another view someone that really appreciates guitar solos, go get it
What s with me and metalcore, everytime i check a couple of albums for review, one for sure is metalcore well that or hardcore, yeah, well besides my nagging, is a pretty by the numbers metalcore, fast and hard with the oh so predictable clean chorus, i believe this is their second album, but to be honest it s the first time i had the pleasure.
So let s have a looksee on The Fall of Ideals .
Well well, isn t this the most metalcore track I ve heard in some time, if This Calling is not their single, my name isn t fiend (it isn t, but that s beside the point hehehe), pure straight blasting metalcore, to a simple and catchy (yeah it rhymes) clean chorus, with some blasting underneath, that well at least it gives some edge, next comes Not Alone and I m already on that oh damn are this guy really talking about how they are so miserable, they lost their girlfriend or whatnot shit me, that s so 90 s, well beat me with a stick if it isn t almost identical with the last track, hell they both clock at about 3:30, funny, well both aren t bad, more like, someone has done this better somewhere for sure, kind of thing.
It Dwells in Me is kinda weak on it s knees, yeah because in this kind of music it doesn t matter what you do between the chorus, if the chorus is catchy the music is fine, even though this one has some interesting guitar work followed up by some hardcore punching, maybe it s not that weak, We Stand is nothing great, Whispers (I Hear your) is the same formula different lyrics, The Weak Willed has a little more hardcore bite, with no clean chorus, but they sure sugar coat it on the end yeah giving a bit of after taste, Six pops up with the predictable blasting to a more clean track, with some sissy voice off, then building up to a some rock like whatever, it s not that good, Become the Catalyst has a more interesting guitar solo, chorus sucks, The Air That I Breathe just sucks, Empty Inside is a patch work and again follows their formula to the letter, Indictment is again one by the numbers, nothing to add.
I believe most of our visitors don t know Crowbar. Well, you should. They are one of the heaviest bands on the planet. Kirk s riffs are heavy as shit. He s the heavy-riff master! He also has one of [. ..]]]>
Don t get me wrong, I m not saying that i don t like more clean stuff, or melodic, hell no, if it s good, then i like it, but as i said before regarding metalcore, that have always need to put whatever (in this case some clean/melodic chorus and guitar solos) tend to limit the potential of the music, and that rarely turns up in a good thing, structure is fine, but don t let the structure dictate what you sound like, hell 90% of their songs are start with blasting>melodic chorus>metalcore>melodic chorus>guitar solo>finish with a melodic chorus or slower hardcore blast, so yeah if your into , or any other meloish metalcore band, you might want to give it a go, for me great metalcore comes from the likes of .
Well, you should. They are one of the heaviest bands on the planet. s riffs are heavy as shit.
He s the heavy-riff master! He also has one of the most original voices out there. Maybe not in a good way [you might not like it at first] but he s one of a kind.
Crowbar´s style is a kind of sludge metal but not as doomish / stoner as , for instance. Crowbar is more direct, HEAVY and, sometimes, has some punk roots [mostly on the early albums].
New Dawn opens the record.
It s a typical Crowbar song. It s slow, heavy and with memorable riffs. Pretty much in the vein of Crowbar s latest records.
Slave No More follows in the same style. Maybe a bit more catchy tough. Ends up with a very cool heavy riff.
This is one of Crowbar s trademarks. Head banging all the way!
Angels Wings it s one of my favourite tracks.
Hell yeah! Old Crowbar style! Starts up with an aggressive pace, kind of punkish and then ultra-heavy chorus.
God I love Crowbar The middle section has a evil feeling. Great track.
With Coming Down the other side of Crowbar steps in.
It s a kind of ballad, but an heavy ballad. Throughout the albums, Crowbar always had some tracks like this, and most of them are pretty cool.
Fall Back to Zero starts with clean arpeggios.
Very calm But as soon as the chorus comes in, the head banging begins! Nice track, with very cool heavy-to-clean passages.
Underworld reminds me those « » days.
And that s a good thing – «Broken Glass» rules. This track could, in fact, belong to that album. Heavy playing with a more punkish pace.
Dead Sun rocks. Starts up with one more memorable heavy riff. The chorus is very well conceived.
Melodic but heavy at the same time. Kirk really knows how to do it.
Holding Something reminds me of the melodic tracks on «Broken Glass» record.
One more cool track.
Moon has that ballad vibe again. The chorus it s pretty damn heavy.
I m Repeating all over myself, I know. But this is Crowbar s style – there s always an heavy passage that make you head bang! It finishes up with another heavy riff.
Crowbar style.
The Violent Reaction is another favourite track. Starts with a demonic Black Sabbath kind of riff.
Then, oh my god, what an heavy riffing. Kirk shows, once again, who s the riff master. The pre-chorus it s punk paced - «Broken Glass» style again.
The chorus reminds me of Like Broken Glass track chorus and you know what that mean Hell of a slow heavy chorus. This track is great and finishes up with the starting riff, doing that classical thing.
Lifesblood is the closing track.
It s a calm, acoustic track. Crowbar has some of this kind of tracks on the other records. I don t enjoy them very much tough.
Their nice tracks but I don t see the purpose of them on the context of the record.
It s another Crowbar album. Has a bit of more melodic then heavy tracks.
I prefer the heavier ones. My favourite albums still remain «Broken Glass» and «Odd Fellows Rest». They are the heaviest ones.
Nevertheless, it s a good album and probably a nice one to get into Crowbar. Try the predecessor «Sonic Excess In Its Purest Form» also, very good record and heavier then «Lifesblood for the Downtrodden». [CDATA[Do you know Gorguts?! Luc Lemay is back with Negativa, his new project. When I heard that, from the ashes of Gorguts, a new band was being assembled, I became very curious to know if it was Gorguts alike or a complete new band. Well Surprise surprise! It s Gorguts alike. «Obscura» alike, to be more precise. When I heard that, from the ashes of Gorguts, a new band was being assembled, I became very curious to know if it was Gorguts alike or a complete new band. Well Surprise surprise! It s Gorguts alike. « » alike, to be more precise. . But the thing is: Gorguts had already grabbed us by the balls in «Obscura» and taken us to « » - an album close to perfection. With this Negativa EP, it s like going back instead of going forward. Don t get me wrong, the songs are pretty good, but after all this years I expected a bit more, an evolution. Damn, I expected much more. Nevertheless, I m happy Gorguts soul is back and I m still salivating for a new full-length record. It starts with a string pick-tapping and some dissonant chords. Then the blast beats comes in. Typical «Obscura» playing [Prepare to listen to this EP several times before you can truly enjoyed it. You all know how «Obscura» sounds and how dissonant, complex and chaotic this sound is]. Gorguts are back! Ermm Negativa Negativa are back The middle section is close to Well Close to Close to the opposite of a beautiful melody ^^ Very sick passage. A more speed-up passage follows end then it finishes up with a similar start but with guitar noises in the middle and the end of the section. Did I mention chaotic riffs? Oh, and chaotic riffs. There s a slow passage also in «From Wisdom to Hate» style. Well, it s Luc s style to be more exact. I ll be waiting for the full-length album.
The question is: Is this EP up to the Gorguts high-standards?
Yes and No.
In this three song EP we are taken to a place were Gorguts had left us with the «Obscura» album.
Chaos in Motion opens up the EP.
Great verse-to-chorus section. I missed these passages.
Taedium Vitae is a more slow doomish song. Maybe more in the vein of «From Wisdom to Hate» but more dissonant and sick.
All three tracks end up with noisy stuff, it s kind of boring.
Rebellion brings up the fast blasts again. More typical «Obscura» playing. Fast dissonant stuff.
The track finishes with some more guitar noises. *ironic mode on* Wow how cool, ending all tracks the same boring way *ironic mode off*.
That sums it. Nothing new with this EP. But, for the sake of Gorguts, it deserves a few listens.![]()
