Some people thinks classical music is boring to listen to, only for old people , and not cool. That s not true. In fact I know a lot of people in their 20s, and also younger, who are really in to classical music, or starting to like it more and more.
Over the last couple of decades classical musicians have slowly but steadily begun to have a more cool appearance. Take for example the many beautiful and sexy young performers such as the russian as well as many other younger classical music artists today.
Classical music is here to stay, and it will only become more and more accepted not only by connoisseurs but also average music lovers of all ages.
The internet is helping modern classical music composers and musicians finding new audiences. Several of the big online communities, such as the Talk Classical - which is one of the best I ve found - are doing really well in spreading the word about classical music to new audiences, and at the same time helping new listeners by answering their questions and giving general advices on where to start digging in to all sorts of classical music.
There s also many classical musicians, singers and composers to be found on MySpace and elsewhere.
Speaking of contemporary composers writing new classical music today, there s also a lot going on. Some modern composers write music that is very hard to approach, usually so called atonal music, but others composes music that is highly approachable for new classical music listeners - beautiful music that is still modern and complex.
There s a lot great new music to explore. For example, on the composer Frederik Magle s website you can access many with his music and hear for yourself.
Finally, film music is a lot of the time very inspired by classical music, one way or another.
Most major film scores are scored for large classical symphony orchestra and sometimes classical music works becomes famous after being featured in movies. In fact many modern classical composers are working as film composers as well.
So, there s a lot going on in the world of classical music and the answer to the first question is definitely: Yes, classical music is cool, and it s not going away!
