Chantal Kreviazuk, nominated for Single of the Year and Pop Album of the Year at the 2007 Juno Awards in Saskatoon. (Nathan Denette/Canadian Press) Last year, the Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (CARAS) made an unusually garish choice of host for the Juno Awards — Pamela Anderson, who brought the room down with her pithy objections to northern Canada’s seal hunt. For this year’s soiree on April 1, CARAS tapped a more classy, of-the-moment personality: Nelly Furtado.
And what a busy woman she’s going to be. Not only is the Victoria native going to play MC, she’ll also be performing — and given that she’s nominated for five awards, chances are good that we’ll see her at the podium uttering a litany of breathless thank yous.
While Nelly will monopolize much of the evening, the show at Saskatoon’s Credit Union Centre will also include performances by Billy Talent, Montreal crooner Gregory Charles, the Tragically Hip and k-os.
Here’s a scorecard for the major categories.
ElectriK HeaT: The Seekwill (k-os), The Love Movement (feat. k-os, Micah Meisner and Zeb Roc)
The Juno Awards will be broadcast April 1.
