SKATING INTO LONG BEACH: Our daughter Hannah is into a bunch of different kinds of music: a little emo, a little hip-hop, a little "American Idol," a little Green Day, a little J-Lo, a little Red Hot Chili Peppers. She's just like us, in other words, apart from the fact that we don't like any of that, except for maybe a little Green Day and a little Red Hot Chili Peppers. We try to tell her that the Peppers are from Our Generation of Rock 'n' Roll, which she just laughs at because, well, she likes them, and she hates Our Generation of Rock 'n' Roll, therefore we are lying, which she doesn't find surprising at all in light of the now-thoroughly debunked Santa Claus/Tooth Fairy/Daddy Has a Real Job myths.

She also is (or has been; we haven't received the quarterly report yet for Winter 2006-07) a huge fan of Disney's "High School Musical" franchise, which is a huge franchise, taking in a pair of movies (the second of which comes out this summer), their attendant best-selling soundtracks (the first one was the No. 1 album of 2006) and a novel that's sold more than 1.2 million copies.

And now, like all things Disney (including, perhaps, Walt himself), it's being put on ice. "High School Musical: The Ice

Tour," skates into the Long Beach Arena with a pair of shows, noon and 3:30 p.m.

, on Oct. 7. We're alerting (or alarming) you now so you can be in line when tickets go on sale at all TicketMaster outlets and the Arena box office on Monday.

Prices range from $15 to $75. A NOD TO JAZZ: We have tried our best to get our feelings regarding jazz and how we're not overly fond of it out there, but we keep getting e-mails urging us to devote ever-increasingly expensive ink to various jazz performances. Do we revel in what we suspect is a sign of our idiocy regarding music?

We do not. We wish we liked jazz, just as we wish we liked calculus. Maybe that's why we're finally relenting, after months of coming up with excuses, to give a mention, even if it's one not grounded in our knowledge of the subject, of the local jazz sextet Jazz Rx (pronounced Jazz Prescription) which plays to large and enthusiastic audiences every other Friday at diPiazza's, 5205 E.

Pacific Coast Highway in Long Beach. Tonight is one of those every other Fridays. The band plays a two-set show at 5:30 and 7:30 p.

m., with tonight's set list including tunes by Rahsaan Roland Kirk, John Coltrane, Duke Ellington, Miles Davis, Thelonious Monk and Charles Mingus. Come for the jazz, stay for the pizza.

We like pizza. ROWDY SOUNDS: We also like, along with pizza, rowdy Irish music, especially the sort of stuff that has its roots in the old punk scene. And it's out of that musical wreckage that the Long Beach-based Dicey Reilly His Privateers has crawled to become legends at Irish taverns up and down the local coast.

If you're still reeling from the three-day St. Pat's weekend just two weeks past, try going the entire stretch with our boys as they assault the stage tonight from 9 p.m.

till 1 a.m. at Gallagher's Pub, 2751 E.

Broadway. FOOLISH PLAYLIST: April Fool's Day is on Sunday. We are not lying.

Look it up, if you don't believe us. Here. Here's a calendar.

.. WITH A SNAKE IN IT!

! No, seriously, it is on Sunday. So, for today's What's On What's Hot's iPod feature, we're going with an all-fool's list.

We know there are dozens we left off; but it's our iPod, not yours. In fact here's yours right here. Never mind that we're handing it to you with tongs and it appears to be glowing red.

It's the new Red Hot Chili Peppers iPod. Come on, just grab it! 2.

"Fool On the Hill," The Beatles. 3. "What Kind of Fool Am I?

" Sarah Vaughan. 4. "Chain of Fools," Aretha Franklin.

5. "Fool to Cry," Rolling Stones. 7.

"(Now and Then) There's a Fool Such as I," Hank Snow. 8. "Certain Kind of Fool," The Eagles.
