The top 10 hopefuls sang songs under the tutelage of pop star Gwen Stefani last night, and the results were underwhelming (at least compared to last show). There were no great performances, insomuch as a typical Melinda Doolittle performance isn't considered great.
In truth, all of her performances have been great, but we're used to that level from her and, therefore, they've begun to sound typical.
As we've been doing for the last month or so, I've given each singer a grade for their performance last night. This is not like the NBA Slam Dunk Contest; I'm not going to give a bunch of A's just because I can.
I've yet to give an A-plus, though I'm hopeful it will happen at some point this season (I'm looking at you, Sanjaya). Check out the grades below.
I was disappointed with Lakisha's output last night, not because of the song ( ldquo;Last Dance rdquo;), but because I don't think she's putting forth maximum effort.
The judges liked it, yet I've completely soured on Lakisha over the last three weeks. She still has a great voice and time to redeem herself (which I hope she does), but she's not going to do that without putting out the effort.
Is anyone else sick of Melinda besides me?
? Yes maybe she can sing a little better than the rest but she is the most fake and boring performer on the show. Every night she has that fake little surprised look on her face when she gets a good comment from the judges, please help me!
! She has her own personal voice coach for goodness sake. What happen to amateur singers trying to get a break with the Amercian audience, now we have personal voice coaches and stylists.
I'm pulling for anyone other than Melinda and of course that poor little weak thing...
Sanjaya is it?? She is boring and unoriginal and would never make it as a pop star anyone so vote her off so she can go perform on a cruise ship or something.
I think blake singing is amazing, hope is in the final 2 contestants , i like gina clockson too she reminds me of pink ,the singer, awesome , when it comes down to 2 players in the singing competion i really hope it is blake and gina , both are great performers ! love them !

we like blake and gina , they are both awesome singers, i enjoy listening to them both , but i hope blake wins as he is a great singer , way to go blake !!

you were awesome on your audition, but why aren't you projecting, what happened to your voice...
and your hair, idk what to expect every week...
but last night was sure crazy! never seen that before..

american idol is -----> blake lewis ! awesome performer , sings well, brings his own talent in his songs , the way he performs , simply the best singer !

I convinced Sanjaya has been kept on by the "Vote for the Worst" crew.Now you can even vote for him through your cell even if you can't (or don't want to) watch the show.
You posters have it right, Blake is coming on really strong. He's intelligent and creative and has a contemporary look and vibe and you never know where he's going with a performance. I'd like to see a Haley-Blake showdown for all the marbles.
Two all-American kids you can really like. Haley needs to step up vocally a bit, but she's sexed up her image and has loads of star quality on stage which the other females don't. Melinda, yeah, it's getting old .
. . and did you see Simon cringe at her fake humble routine?
He's ready to call her on it. That was Sanjaya coming out and giving the big middle-finger to all his detractors, from Howard Stern to votefortheworst.com to bloggers.
The kid might have an adolescent vengeful streak, and want to bring the whole show down for what people have done to him. Look for Sanjaya to come out in a diaper next week, if he can slip it by the stage crew.

Yeah Josh - me. I'm tired of Melinda and have been since Funny Valentine. Great voice singing uninteresting stuff.
I'm especially tired of her skirting the theme of the show and not being taken to task for it by the judges. I mean come on: 2 show tunes for Diana Ross and British Invasion week, Donna Summer last night? I'm critical of Lakisha - who I think has a more interesting voice and like better - on the same count; she's chosen for the same 3 shows "God Bless The Child" a Billie Holiday song not a Diana Ross song [yes, I'm aware of the movie]; a 007 theme, and a Donna Summer disco song.
Phhtttt! Gina is far from professional, but at least a CD from her might have some interesting stuff. Tonight I think Sligh goes.
He's seemed disinterested 2 weeks in a row. I believe he and Sanjaya both want off - but the latter is choosing to make a fool of himself and the show.

Melinda and Jordan are the best of this buch.PERIOD! Sorry that a person who seems genuinely nice(Melinda),is classified as boring and fake?
Are you so used to losers with attitude that a genuine performer who is humble gets dissed?PLEASE! As for Blake:not a bad singer but WEAK when compared to the big voices on the show.
Don't get me wrong...
I like him,but he happens to be the best of the boys and nowhere near the best of the bunch.That said:Melinda/Jordan and Blake in the final 3.Like it or not.

Yeh Blake did a nice job of ripping off 311's version last night and taking credit for it. They just did a remake of that same song and he just copied it. Nothing original about it.
I'm just glad he didn't do that stupid beat-boxing shit. I heard he is a huge diva backstage. American Idol is a huge joke anymore.
The best season by far was the first with Kelly Clarkson winning it all. The season with Carrie Underwood wasn't bad either. Both of them have went on to become huge stars.
After that the season winners are a big joke. Taylor Hicks, Ruben and Fantasia all tanked. I guess at least Fantasia has had some success but she is far from being a star like Kelly and Carrie.
Chris Daughtry should have won he season and he is proving that now. Even Simon said Taylor shouldn't have won.Like he said though it doesn't matter who wins now because the right person will be successful in the end.
bad hair and no tallent. stop voting for sanjaya he sucks.

Lakisha was the clear leader this year but Melinda is now the favorite to win it all. To all of you who are doubting her, GET OVER YOURSELF! Melinda has been the most consistent performer in the whole competition and she is a legit star.
She is not a fake and seems like a warm, compassionate human being. I also do like Blake and think that it could be Melinda and Blake in the final 2 and then its anybody's game. As for Sanjaya, the longer he stays in Idol, the longer this show becomes more and more a joke.
He is the worst performer in the history of this show. Simon is wrong, this is not a signing competition, it is a performing competition with singing the biggest part of it. Sanjaya cannot sing and he cannot perform but let's also remember folks, and this is sad, but the longer he stays in Idol, the longer the ratings stay at the top.
HOW CAN YOU SAY THAT BLAKE IS THE BEST!!!
!! He's in the top half, don't get me wrong, but there are at least two girls (Melinda and Jordin) who are mountains above him.

He's so cute. GO SANJAYA GO, even though he's not the most talented, that doesn't mean he can't win idol, he's very calm and soothing and I like that!!

It was a clear mistake for Sanjaya to even be in the final 24. However, him still being there now is becoming a joke and a mockery of what the show is supposed to be about.
(A talent show based on singing) The voting system has truly failed this year. Some very talented singers havd been sent home while this ridiculous no talent girly-boy is still standing up there every week.

Sanjaya is the worst singer,performer and the most annoying contestant in American idols history.
He should be voted off.

Sanjaya is turning this show into a comedy! If someone doesn't stop this soon I'm afraid American Idol will lose viewers.
This is not about singing because he CAN"T sing. Why don't they get 1/2 the votes from america's voters and 1/2 from the judges. Then maybe this nonsense will stop!
I was bored by some of the singers (Doolittle and Jones), but I laughed out loud at the performance of Sanjaya. I was entertained. Let's face it, this show is entertainment.
I want the whole entertainment package. Blake Lewis is also entertaining and fun to watch. I personally will continue to watch Idol, even if the person I like the most doesn't win - for whatever reason.

I can't belive people are voting for Sanjaya. He is Horrible. People are really dumb if they think that voting for him will get Simon off the show.
Most of the time Simons comments are Right On. Hes not going to quit the show. I am afraid that Sanjaya will go farther to the top.
