MILLIONS of "American Idol" viewers heard her songs interpreted over the past month. Kanye West even sampled her vocal on the hit "Through the Wire." Now Inland area music fans have a chance to catch the real deal in concert when Chaka Khan appears in Riverside on Sunday.

The Grammy-winning soul diva started her recording career in the early '70s as a member of Rufus, which went onto score big R B chart hits with "Tell Me Something Good" and "Ain't Nobody.
" Upon launching a solo career, Khan did even better. First came "I'm Every Woman" in 1978. Then the Prince-penned title track to "I Feel For You" (featuring Stevie Wonder and rapper Melle Mel) broke her career wide open in 1984.
"Through the Fire," from the same album, became a staple at Adult Contemporary radio. Khan signed to Prince's record label in the late '90s and collaborated with him on the "Come to My House" CD in 1998. More recently, she took part in "Journey: Live in New York," a live all-star gospel recording for Richard Smallwood and sang "Holy is Your Name.
" A new studio release, is expected this year. Howard Hewitt opens the concert. As a singer in Shalamar, he topped the Black and Club Play singles charts in 1980 with "The Second Time Around.
" The trio were also known for such singles as "Make That Move," "A Night to Remember," "Dead Giveaway" and "Dancing in the Sheets" (from the soundtrack to "Footloose"). His solo hits include "I'm for Real," "Stay" and "I Commit to Love.
