The dance clothes are out and the band is ready as the Lillington Rotary Club puts the finishing touches on plans for the annual Cornelius Harnett Ball this weekend. Lillington Rotary President Peter Goolsby promises an evening of food, fun, fellowship and big band music for all who attend. Music for the ball will once again be provided by Leon Jordan and the Continentals.
The band has provided its unique brand of big band music every year since the ball's inception in 1985. Harnett County's most prestigious annual social event will attract many local, state and national leaders, as well as many Harnett citizens. Ball-goers will enjoy heavy hors d'oeuvres, and several Rotary-related awards will be presented.
A silent auction with many items of interest including sports memorabilia and clothing will be held in conjunction with the event, which is the most important funding source for the club's charitable activities. The Cornelius Harnett Ball raises money for the Rotary Club of Lillington to give to educational and humanitarian causes. Proceeds will be used for scholarships for Harnett County high school students, as well as the club's Harnett County Teacher of the Year Award, the Rotary Disaster Relief fund, local Boy Scouts and a Campbell University scholarship.
The club is a supporter of the United Way, S.A.F.
E. as well as the Rotary Foundation of Rotary International, the world's largest privately funded scholarship provider, and other charities. Tickets are available from Mr.
Goolsby at 893-3722, or from any other Lillington Rotarian at a cost of $50 per person.
