MUSICAL students are staging a concert in aid of a Kenyan school.

St Andrew's high School year 11 students, Ammar Hamid, Robert Leggatt, Adam Rootes, Tom Conway and Dan Connor have recruited others to support the Mwokoeni School in Mombasa.

The teenagers are spending two weeks this summer at the school, working as teaching assistants

At 7.30pm on Saturday, March 17 keen musicians and singers will be taking to the stage at St Andrew's in Sackville Road for the Mwokoeni Concert to help send the boys, and vital science equipment, to the school.

Deputy head teacher, Chris Azzaro, will be accompanying the quintet on their working trip.

He said: "There will be so many people performing at the concert — I will be singing as well — and we hope to raise £1,000.

"Going out to Kenya will be a great experience for the students.

"They are getting very excited about going."

The students first created links with Mwokoeni school when, in year eight, they became penpals with children out there.

The school is for street children up to the age of 14.

Tickets for the concert are £5 and available from the school office.
