by BENJAMIN S. ROSSI, Sports Editor The cross country crew ran their best times all year at the Lone Star Conference Meet Saturday in Stephenville.
I m very pleased with the result from top to bottom, head coach James Reid said.

I do my best to encourage the runners to play at their best.
The Belles had two players receive all-conference honors as they finished in the top ten for individual standings. Trista McIntyre, a junior from Wall, received fourth place for individual performance Saturday while Rebecca Graupman, a senior from Forney, made a fifth-place finish with 22:29 at the conference meet.

Reid said he felt the team could have done better had they been more flexible in changing their strategy.
In the beginning they like to hold back a bit, but should have stepped it up in the beginning, he said.
It hurt us a little bit as far as time goes, Reid said.

For the men s squad, again it was junior Thomas Veal from Burkburnett who led the pack. He also placed tenth in the individual standings.
It s performances such as Veal and (freshman Travis) Westbrook that give me a lot of confidence for the rest of this year and into the next, Reid said.

Veal finished 10th at 25:49, and Westbrook finished in the 13th at 26:34.
It is definitely a yearlong process, he said, as the team shifts gears in a few months to concentrate on track and field events.
The two teams are on the road for the NCAA Division II regional meet to battle with Abilene in Warrensburg, Mo.
