We have a GORGEOUS second floor apartment just steps from Ball Square in Somerville. The apartment is technically in Medford though, so we don?t have issues with parking permits or higher insurance rates.
It?s the best of both worlds! We live on a one way side street that?
s not easily used as a thruway, hence we get very little non-local traffic, so it?s really quiet here. The apartment has hardwood floors, it?
s on the second floor, so we have a foyer on the first floor and an enclosed porch area (which we haven?t fully decided what to do with yet). The eat-in kitchen comes fully stocked with kitchen utensils and dishes.
There?s a TV with cable, a VCR/DVD player, and a computer with internet access available for your use. The house is fully furnished except for your room.
The house gets GREAT LIGHT. It?s bright and sunshiny!
Kelle (woman, 36) works from home during the day. I keep my office in the living room (part of the deal for making my computer available to the house) and I work from home most days. I do not see clients at the house, but I do have conference calls, etc.
I?m outgoing, friendly, and try to make people feel comfortable and welcomed. George (man, late 50?
s) is an artist by passion and works a day job to pay the rent. He?s out of the house for 12-14 hours every few days, and then home a lot on the other days.
He?s quiet, unassuming, and very easy to get along with. We get along well with the other tenants in the building.
We all moved in roughly at the same time, so we?ve gotten to know each other pretty well. Currently we each have our own shelves in the refrigerator and our own cabinets for food.
We share things like spices, olive oil, cleaning supplies, etc. I like to have small gatherings occasionally (once a month or so). Roommates are welcome to attend, but not required to attend.
Your room is very large with a large closet. The closet currently has no doors, so it is either open to the room or you?ll need to put up a curtain or negotiate the installation of doors with the landlord.
(He?s pretty reasonable, if a bit slow about getting things done.) Rent is $450/mo.
plus utilities. Utilities run about $75 per month for everything except phone. (That number varies slightly depending on electricity usage.
We are on a budget plan for the gas bill, so that won?t be going up wildly in the winter.) I subscribe to Netflix, and you are welcome to participate or not in that subscription.
There is some off-street parking shared with the other tenants in the house, but most of us opt to park on the street so that we don?t have to do the car shuffle (there?s no shortage of on-street parking).
There is a small back yard, currently mostly unused. There is a basement for storage (it?s a little damp, but there?
s a dehumidifier). There are coin op laundry machines in the basement. There's also a garage (we'd need to negotiate with the building for the use of it).
We are one mile from either the Porter Square or Davis Square T stop. The #89 bus picks up just a couple of blocks from our house and will take you to the Davis T station. We are 5 minutes from route 93N and 7 minutes from 93S.
Within a few blocks is the Minuteman Trail which is a great walking/biking area that leads to the Davis T stop. Also within a few blocks is a great coffee shop, the best breakfast in town, Chinese food that delivers, karaoke 4 nights a week, live bands at a Mexican restaurant/bar, a bank, two convenience stores, a small grocery, a bakery, a dry cleaner/Laundromat, a wine store, pizza place, great burgers, and more. Less than a mile from Tufts.
We would love to have a grad student or other quiet type person who appreciates an orderly house and is willing to participate in keeping it that way. We are not neat freaks, but tidy is required when sharing space with multiple people. We are looking for a low-drama, good communicator who sees their house as their sanctuary from the world.
Sorry - no pets and no smokers! To see the place, call Kelle at 781-874-2136 and leave a message that says what day/time you'd like to come.
