Hero happy with party pill sponsor - Newstalk ZB

Hero Party organisers are standing by their decision to take sponsorship from a party pill company and promote their products. The move has sparked some criticism from those who are concerned about widespread use of BZP pills within the gay community.
Organisers say party pills are still legal, and there is some evidence they reduce the use of illegal recreational drugs.

Spokesman Michael Modrich says the Hero Festival guide also has safe partying information and the event has taken a responsible position. He says organisers are aiming to reduce the risk to party patrons.
The Hero Party is considered by many to be the most fabulous night of the year on the gay calendar.

Auckland's St James complex will be a mecca for heels, wigs, rainbows, outrageous costumes, lasers and house music. The annual event marks the culmination of Hero month now that there are no more Hero Parades.
Organisers say they have tried to cater for the diverse gay community with a special women-only room complete with the matchmaking Flirt Police, and a TranSpace section.

Mr Modrich says the Hero Party is about celebration, which provokes self-esteem and pride. DJs from London, Melbourne and New Zealand are playing alongside major dance and drag shows.
The Hero Party at Auckland's St James complex starts at 10 o'clock tonight.
