As good of a band as they were, the public truly equates Genesis with Phil Collins as the front man. Fact is, until they went ultrapop in 1986..
. they were a great great band and I consider the Collins led 1976-1980 era the pinnacle of Genesis. IMHO as much as I love AC/DC and Aerosmith, I wouldn't do a rock honors with them.
I thought the idea was to include bands that were overlooked by the hall and influential. I would have done any of these Deep Purple, Cheap Trick, Heart, Rush, Iron Maiden Haven't we had enough of Ozzy, Genesis, and ZZ Top to last us a life time?
