Dave Anderson was left crying into his birthday cake after his side were swept aside by his former club Hendon.
The Dons were beaten for the first time in 11 league games after going down 3-1 at struggling Hendon on Saturday - despite taking the lead through Roscoe Dsane's first half strike.
And Anderson, who celebrated his 45th birthday on Sunday, admitted that his side's result and performance put a dampener on the celebrations.
He said: "It certainly wasn't the perfect birthday fillip for me - I thought the defending of their three goals was awful. We had chances in the game and I think we will play worse this season and still get something."
The Dons boss was left ruing a number of missed opportunities that would have killed the game off and has called on his strikers to be more ruthless in front of goal.
"Their keeper has made a couple of great saves but at the end of the day we are paid to put it in the back of the net. At 1-0 we had chances to go 2-0 up and I thought we looked by far the better side and we looked comfortable.
"Goals change football matches and if we get that second goal then it's a different game.
But I'm frustrated that we've come out of it with nothing after creating the chances we did."
After a sluggish start to the game the Dons took the lead on 20 minutes after Dsane latched onto Wes Daly's pass to slot past Hendon keeper Richard Wilmot.
But two goals in as many minutes for the home side bewildered the Dons.
Belal Aiteouakrim's low shot on 33 minutes beat Paul Smith to equalise for Gary McCann's side and then two minutes later poor defending from Anderson's side saw Brian Haule smash the ball past Smith in a one-on-one to give Hendon the lead.
The Dons should have clawed their way back into the game with Steve Ferguson and Dsane missing good chances and they were made to pay for their missed chances on the 67th minute when Wayne OSullivan's free kick was nodded in by Lee O'Leary to give the home side a two goal lead.
Luke Garrard missed a good opportunity to make it a nervy last 10 minutes for Hendon - but the home side held on to dent the Dons' championship hopes.
