It took a Final Straw to break Snow Patrol in the U.S. The Scotland-based band had enjoyed success close to home, but found it tougher to sell its guitar-driven, sometimes symphonic rock here.

But the band hit on something with its third album, the rare alt-rock record that catered to arena-rock types and indie snobs in equal measure.
Rather than labor for years over a follow-up, the band got to work quickly and recorded the very good Eyes Open, which was released it last year.
Guitarist Nathan Connolly spoke with Andrew Dansby for Five Questions.

Have you gotten your sea legs yet?
(Laughs.) Yeah we're adjusting just fine, thanks.

Right now we're sitting around in Denver. There's a bit of snow on the ground. We're just kind of like, let's get on with it.

There's a gig almost every night, which is the fun part. That's what you go on tour for. It's not as nice when you have travel days.

So we're excited to be back. We've grown a little bit since the last time we were here.
With any record there's always challenges.
