Blues trounce Lions

Doug Howlett equalled the Super 14 record for highest try scorer with two touchdowns in Auckland Blues 41-14 win over the Lions at Eden Park.

The New Zealand winger scored in each half to take his tally to 57 tries equalling the record set by retired ACT Brumbies back Joe Roff.
David Holwell, Rudi Wulf, Ben Atiga and Daniel Braid all scored as the Blues trounced the Lions and extended their lead at the top of the table.


Auckland made a storming start as they scored two tries in the first six minutes and went on to secure their bonus point within half an hour.
Wing Louis Ludik scored the Lions' only try of the first half as the visitors trailed 34-7 at the break.
The second half suffered from the inevitably slump in excitement with Lions replacement Ethienne Reynecke matching Howlett's second try.


"We put a lot of emphasis on our start," Blues skipper Troy Flavell said.
"We put a lot of pressure on them and got the rewards.
