London, England (BANG) - Pete Doherty is hoping he and his friend can be on good terms for at least 24 hours so his big day can go by smoothly.
Pete wants former bandmate Carl Barat to be his best man.
Pete, who had a falling out with Carl after he threw him out of The Libertines, has buried the hatchet and is desperate for Carl to be there when he marries supermodel Kate Moss.
Carl, who is the lead singer of new group Dirty Pretty Things, admits he was surprised by Pete's request and has hinted the wedding could take place soon.
He is quoted by Britain's Daily Mirror newspaper as saying, "We had a heart-to-heart and Pete asked me if I'd be his best man. At first I thought he was joking.
But he told me he and Kate were desperate to marry. I was shocked but delighted. I'm touched that after all we've been through we could finally put it behind us and move on.
"
Carl has already started planning his speech for the big day.
He said, "Pete suggested I do a reading, something from Chekhov."
Pete was jailed for six months in 2003 after burgling Carl's apartment.
Carl threw Pete out of the band the following year when his drug taking spiraled out of control.
Meanwhile, Pete has revealed he and Kate want to marry in a remote hideaway - but their plans were dashed after police confiscated his
passport.
Pete fumed, "We can't get married thanks to the police.
We want to go
somewhere special, miles away from anywhere. We can't wait, it's going to be a beautiful wedding. But the police have taken my passport.
"
Pete's passport was taken after he was given a two-year supervision order for drugs offenses.
