INXS frontman Michael Hutchence's brother Rhett has defended his decision to sell the deceased singer's belongings on eBay, insisting it is all in the name of love.
The 44-year-old Byron Bay resident yesterday rejected claims made in New Idea this week that he was trying to cash in on the singer's fame almost 10 years after his death.
The younger Hutchence brother said he was selling off some unimportant knick-knacks so he could afford to move to the Netherlands to be with 28-year-old air hostess girlfriend Lissette.
I assure you all the really important things I'm keeping, he said.
I will be passing on a lot of these things to (Michael's daughter) Tiger when she's old enough.
The fact is I'm in love .
.. she's young and beautiful and everything I could want.
I just need to raise some money so I can be with her.
Michael wouldn't have minded at all - he would be happy I'm in love and have some direction in my life.
While he confessed the sales had already helped pay for his airfares, Hutchence said the auctions would continue because he still needed some spending money before flying out for the two-month trip.
There's nothing untoward about this, he said.
