South African Airways (SAA) is further expanding its foothold in Africa after signing codeshare agreements with Egypt Air and Rwandair Express.
SAA customers will have the opportunity to travel between Johannesburg and Cairo in Egypt and between Johannesburg and Kigali in Rwanda as of Sunday, 29th October 2006.
These two new partnerships form part of SAA's aim to increase its frequencies within the continent as embodied in the airline's Africa Strategy and to provide customers with better connectivity.
The agreement with Egypt Air comes more than 20 years since SAA last had a presence in the North African market.
SAA will be withdrawing from Kigali after operating on the route for more than six years but the airline's presence will be maintained through the new codeshare.
Flights to and from Cairo will operate on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays, while services to and from Kigali will operate on Fridays and Sundays with the possibility of an additional frequency in the future.
"We believe these new partnerships will benefit both business and leisure travellers between South Africa, Egypt and Rwanda, allowing for greater trade, development and tourism opportunities", says Nomfanelo Magwentshu, SAA General Manager Business Development. - Sapa
