Arctic Monkeys were honoured twice at Thursday night's Shockwaves NME Awards at London, England's Hammersmith Palais, but Pete Doherty and Kate Moss stole the show by being tossed out of the proceedings.
The Babyshambles singer was seen slipping a spoon up his sleeve, and venue security feared the notorious druggie was planning on using it to cook some heroin in the washroom. He could also have been planning to spoon-feed one of his new .
But whatever his idea was, it was thwarted.
"If I can't get high, maybe I can get lucky," Doperty may have been thinking to himself after that. An anonymous source told NME.
com that he and Moss were stopped from trying to sneak into the loo together, and were told to return to their table.
"Later they were both caught in a dark alleyway at the back of the building," the source said. "So we got their own security guards to put them in a car and take them home.
"
Babyshambles were nominated for best British band and live band, but didn't win in either category, so Doperty didn't miss an acceptance speech. However, Moss was voted sexiest woman and was supposed to present the Godlike Genius award to Primal Scream main man Bobby Gillespie. But since she was nowhere to be found, former Clash member Mick Jones stepped in to hand the trophy to Gillespie.
Jones joined Primal Scream to close the show with a cover of The Clash's "(White Man) In Hammersmith Palais," which was performed in honour of the storied venue's imminent closing. Primal Scream also played "Movin' On Up," "Country Girl," "Rocks" and "Swastika Eyes."
Arctic Monkeys were the only nominee to take two awards, as Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not was named best album and Scummy Man took the top music DVD honour.
