"Nick has been with us a long time and we're very supportive of him," Tooher said. He described Pano as an outgoing teacher of popular, classical, and jazz music styles. "It's very upsetting," said Debra Biglin, a co-owner of the store.
Biglin and Tooher said Pano has always made a point of teaching with the studio door open, next to three other concurrent lessons. There is a waiting space for parents nearby, they said. Suffolk County police, at a news conference Thursday afternoon, said the girl had become "unforcomfortable" with the way Pano was teaching the lessons over the course of several months.
They say that in October, while the girl was taking piano lessons, Pano touched her breasts and buttocks. The girl later told her father, who notified authorities, police said.
