Ellen Page (Hard Candy, X-Men: The Last Stand) plays the film s protagonist, Tracey Berkowitz. Vancouver author Maureen Medved wrote the screenplay based on her own book of the same title, a psychodrama about a girl looking for her lost brother who thinks he s a dog. According to a press release, the film is a stirring tragic comedy and a 21st century Catcher in the Rye, told in a dazzling pop-art fashion.

Though it sounds like a little bit like a Wes Anderson movie, it s actually Canadian director Bruce McDonald s project.

We ve been swooning over s concept-heavy albums (like last year s ) for a while now, but the British producer has not limited his output to just records.

He has also been quietly recording film music for a decade now. will release a 17-track compilation of these pieces in April, simply titled Score.
Score collects Herbert s soundtrack work from seven films and one ballet piece, much of which was arranged by frequent collaborator Pete Wraight.

The compilation includes his work with Blanca Li (the choreographer of Daft Punk s Around the World ) and Etienne Chatiliez, who Herbert is currently recording with at Abbey Road s Studio One for a new film. That project is, according to a press release, a musical called Agathe Clery, about a white racist who turns black. could not be reached for comment.


True to his dedication to avoid the use of pre-set keyboard sounds, drum machines, or secondary musical sources, the sounds Herbert sampled for these pieces relate conceptually to the films for which they were recorded. Thus, in his rejected demos for Manolete (a bullfighting flick), he used the sound of blood and hair, dust and cloth, and even the bull itself to generate percussion. And in his score for Set Boundaries , a live performance piece about borders, all the percussion [was] made out of bullets from RAF Tornado shells that were used in Iraq, and from Israeli bullets.

Whoops! Guess I just had boy bands on the brain. But Chicago indie institution They ve got experience, having played together for nearly 15 years, and they ve got fidelity, having stuck with hometown label since the beginning.

Come May 8, Thrill Jockey will serve up yet another Sea and Cake testament to raging manliness, the quartet s seventh album to date: drummer John McEntire (werewolf). What they may lack in synchronized dance moves, they more than make up for with sparkling, graceful arrangements and thoughtful every Sea and Cake album before it-- exactly 10 songs. Unlike the band s previous LPs, this one was recorded with some help from sound engineer Brian Paulson (Wilco, Slint) at Michigan s Key Club.

It was like a little slowly piecing together a electronic record, while Prekop also has a book of photography on the way. Expect the Sea and Cake to hit the road this spring to rock your body right.
