Mano Solo: I only recently discovered this genius of French music and I am literally knocked over by him.
The passion in his voice is heart rending.
I could only compare his originality and style to say.. I don't know maybe a french Tom Waits?
Hmm that might put you off. It sounds nothing like Tom Waits but Tom Waits also has that gift of raw passion though in a totally different style and genre to Mano Solo.
This is his debut album which makes it even more astounding.
You know, I don't understand a single word of any of the lyrics but it makes absolutely no difference.

I chose this album as when it came out I was so impressed and thought that Ocean Colour Scene were going to be the most successful and groundbreaking band we had seen for a long time.
They weren't. Must have been that Ecstasy I was taking. Either that or the cannabis was making me a bit daft in the head.
Surely not?
I do know however that some of the tracks on this album are superb. The writing is of a high quality as is the singing and of course the band is as tight as a gnats chuff, as they say around these parts.
The new Oasis! they cried. Better than Oasis!
they also cried...
They needn't have bothered 'cos as far as I know - and that isn't far as I have spent ZERO time researching it - they just faded into oblivion and no one really cares about Ocean Colour Scene these days.
If they were playing live somewhere I would love to see them.
They are fucking excellent and deserve a lot more than they got.
I did hear their next album and thought it was crap. End of story. They had something and then they lost it.
Do yourself a favour and download this, the best of the albums they produced...
ok then maybe just the most easily accessible album.
Either way it's a winner.

OK as I sensed a great response to The Lennon Tapes I thought I'd give you another little known gem from my archives which is a series on Earth News Radio (wherever that is/was?
) in 1978.
Best of all is the fact that The Beatles and some of their friends are the ones telling you the story! You get the truth, as they each see it, about how it went bad and what happened over the course of their career as a band.
This is a collection of shows which, although each lasts only a couple or three minutes, tells the story of The Beatles and how they went from the happy innocent beginnings to the rather unfriendly and shitty endings(!)..

through the drugs, fights, envy and then disdain, until the final split after the 'Let It Be' film.
This is definitely worth hearing even if you don't worship or care much for The Beatles, you should find it interesting for the story element and the drama alone.
They went through quite a whirlwind and I had a bit more respect for Paul McCartney and the rest after hearing this.
(I used to think he was just a head-wagging, funny-looking, irritating squealy-voiced prick!)

I detest the fucking patronising attitude that advert creators adopt. Why do they do this??
Do they think that the people who might buy their products will only do so if they are talked to as if they are a 12yr old with no idea about life and the world around them, who blindly buy anything as long as its got a catchy irritating fucking song attached to it??!
I mean how fucking gullible do they want us to be??
I think advertising would work, on me at least, if they just came on and said something like -
'Our stuff isn't shit.
In fact the other company is the one selling the shit stuff. We won't promise you anything if you buy our shit but hey, we are being honest here and we think our shit is pretty good. If you don't believe us then we don't want your custom anyway so fuck you'.
That would get my attention.

After listening to it again today I feel so positive. Always puts me in a good mood. It's uplifting.
Believe me when I say that: My life situation is just one step up from guantanamo bay at the moment. Its painful, dark, intermittent torture and there seems no way of getting out of there.

There are some great artists featured on this one of my best Flamenco styled chill-out albums. A few artist names that you will have also seen on various incarnations of the Cafe Del Mar series. I pretty much fell in love with one artists pure sound in particular: Chambao.

I 'accidentally' caught a bit of that 'Big Brother' on TV last night. I say accidentally because I could never actually sit down to watch this crap.
What confuses me is how can anyone sit down to watch this crap? And enjoy it?
Who are these self-proclaimed celebrities in training anyway?
And why is it that they all seem to possess some kind of androgenous look about them? Is that a requirement to appearing on the show? You have to be gay, act like you are gay, or just bisexual and to hell with standards.
Within seconds of watching these arseholes I was recoiling in horror. The only possible use I could see, from having these exhibitionist, spoilt-brat 'types' all in the one house, was that it would make it easy for the rest of us to get rid of them easily. Maybe they should let the public vote on who gets taken to the gallows next or something.
I think it would be much better if; everyone in the house was given a gun and taught how to use it; only one person was a first-aider; rules are that you can only shoot the limbs or extremeties; last man/woman/thing standing gets to leave. Already the improvements are obvious.
These people don't deserve to have all the tabloid and even national news(!
) attention that is thrown onto them! Well, OK they do deserve the tabloid shit but nothing else.
It used to be that, when they had this show on, the people would slowly become 'celebrity-like' over the course of the show.
Then, when they left the house they would seemingly, become celebrities, albeit for a few months and then fade into non-existence.
Have you noticed how it has kind of gone full circle now?
We, the media hungry public, are so fucking pathetic that the first episode of a new series of this shit elicits massive publicity and full stories on each of the 'stars' which is what they fast become each day.
No longer are they leaving the house competing with real celebs (you know, people who might have actually worked), no. They are fully fledged celebs whilst still in the fucking house. There are companies waiting to offer them contracts and the tabloids are fawning over the lastest tit model in the house and contesting each other over who will get her to 'bare all' in their newsrag first.
Fucking morons.
So, the contestants of Big Brother ARE the celebrity nowadays.
What happened?
Why are we getting so far down the hole of mediocrity that we don't have a gnats bollock of a chance of dragging ourselves back out of it?
