Ok, so I admit it, I am an iTunes/iPod junkie. I have assembled a small collection of my favorite songs. It's hard for me to distinguish any one category of music as my favorite.
I like it all. The great thing about iPods/iTunes is that you can customize your songs into playlists for different moods, activities, etc. For example I have a playlist for working out that is mostly rock, techno, or hip-hop.
I have several devoted to chill out times, one for driving, well you get the pic. However there is one category that I have named simply, "Guilty Pleasures". This is my favorite category, and I encourage everyone to make a GP section on the personal audio playback device of your choice.
No, no, no, GP is not a dirty section, c'mon guys get your minds out of the gutter, at least for now. GP is reserved for "those" songs. You know the ones.
These are the songs that you don't want ANYONE to know you listen to them. These are the songs that when they come on the radio when you are alone, you belt out every note, but when they come on and you are with others you actually make fun of the song. These are the songs that you roll up the windows in the car and sing along to, hoping people cant hear what song you are singing.
Picture it: its noon at the local workout joint and a steroid dude is warming up on the treadmill. He is obviously listing to some music on his iPod. You think maybe The Rolling Stones or possibly Chemical Brothers.
But in fact, he is actually burning calories to Helen Reddy's "I am Woman". Some of you however, wouldn't ever consider playing GP's in public. However, I encourage you to do so.
It will give you a great boost to know that others are assuming you are listening to something like AC/DC while you mow the yard, but really, you are "feeling pretty, oh so pretty" with West Side Story. Here is a short list of some of the GP's I have..
..
"It's Raining Men"- The Weather Girls
"Heaven Is A Place on Earth"- Belinda Carlisle
"Bootylicious"- Destiny's Child
"Bye, Bye, Bye"- NSYNC
"Daybreak"- Barry Manilow
"Don't Cry Out Loud"- Melissa Manchester
"Genie in a Bottle"- Christina Agulera
"Girls Just Wanna Have Fun"- Cyndi Lauper
"Hero"- Mariah Carey
"Jump"- The Pointer Sisters
"Momma Mia"- Broadway cast
"Vogue"- Madonna
"Oops I did it again"- Brittney Spears
"Rock Your Body"- Justin Timberlake
"Say You'll Be There"- The Spice Girls
so, go download some tunes and have some GP time, you will feel like a new person.
..and for the guys who are feeling a little less manly, remember what the bumper sticker says, "Real Men Sing Showtunes"
