Canadians Walk Away Almost Empty-Handed At Grammy Awards

There was almost no point in Canadian artists attending Sunday's Grammy Awards at Los Angeles' Staples Center.
After nominations in various categories, Canadian artists such as Nelly Furtado, Neil Young, Daniel Powter, Michael Buble and even polka king Walter Ostanek came up short.
The only Canadian victory was Gordie Sampson winning best country song for co-writing Carrie Underwood's "Jesus, Take The Wheel.

" The Nova Scotia-born Sampson, who's working on his third solo album, spends much of the year in Nashville. He's worked with some of country music's biggest names, including LeAnn Rimes, Faith Hill and Keith Urban.
While Furtado was a presenter on the show, her Timbaland-produced "Promiscuous" lost out to Tony Bennett and Stevie Wonder's "For Once In My Life" for best pop collaboration with vocal.

Powter was having a good day until his song "Bad Day" lost to John Mayer's "Waiting On The World To Change" for best pop male performance. Bennett had another reason to celebrate after picking up best traditional pop vocal album for Duets: An American Classic, beating both Sarah McLachlan's Wintersong and Buble's Caught In The Act.
The star-studded evening marked a triumphant return for the Dixie Chicks, who picked up five awards for their work on Taking The Long Way.

The Rick Rubin-produced disc was named best album and country album, while "Not Ready To Make Nice" was honoured as record, song and best country performance by a duo or group with vocal.
Other multiple winners were Underwood for best new artist, female country vocal performance and country song for the aforementioned "Jesus, Take The Wheel." Mary J.

Blige, who thanked 55 people in her two-minute acceptance speech, picked up prizes for best R B album for The Breakthrough and female R B vocal performance and R B song for "Be Without You."
Red Hot Chili Peppers' Stadium Arcadium was chosen as best rock album, while "Dani California" took prizes for rock song and rock performance by a duo or group with vocal.
