Armed burglars battered a woman to death, stole her car and went on to attack another family, police said. Up to three men are thought to have kicked frail restaurant owner Kam Fum Chung, 65, to death in her Hillingdon home in west London. Police believe the burglars may have targeted Ms Chung, who owned a Chinese restaurant, thinking she had the day's takings with her.
Detectives have since established she did not have them with her when she returned home to Meadowview, Cowley, late on 5 November, not long before the attack. A post-mortem examination revealed mother-of-two Ms Chung, who lived alone, died of multiple stamps and kicks to the face and chest. The gang drove off in her car and forced their way into a house in Vine Lane, Hillingdon, where a man and his two children were asleep.
Wearing balaclavas, one of them brandished a fake gun while another fetched the girl from her room and held a knife to her throat. But they were forced to escape when the girl's 49-year-old father, grabbed the gun and used it to hit all three of them. He was stabbed in the knee but his children, though left traumatised, were not injured.
The vehicle was recovered burnt out approximately four miles away in Denham, Buckinghamshire, the following day. Det Ch Insp Steven Lawrence said Ms Chung's "brutal and sustained attack" may have lasted up to 15 minutes. "Ms Chung was six stone and had a heart condition, which shows the callousness of those responsible," he said.
"These people, we believe, not content with a murdering an innocent lady have gone on to terrify and assault a man and his children in his own home. "This is a crime committed by men without honour or decency.
