The BYU women's soccer team announced the signing of four players, one from Texas and three from Utah.
The class includes Stacy Bartholomew, a first team all-state forward from Timpanogos High in Orem; defender Nicole Johns, a first team all-stater from Draper; Kassidy Christensen, team captain and leading scorer from Woods Cross High; And Lauren Nelson of Plano, Texas, the team captain of the No.1-ranked team in the nation in 2007.


"These four talented and experienced student-athletes will be a tremendous addition to the BYU women's soccer program," said BYU coach Jennifer Rockwood. "With the return of nine starters and a total of 23 returning players, we knew that our class of 2007 would be small in numbers, but big in talent."
Bartholomew was voted Region 4 MVP, scoring 28 goals as a senior.

She was named to the Daily Herald's All-Valley team.
Johns was the team captain of the No. 2 high school team in the nation, Alta, and was named her region's best defender.

Johns lettered for four years and led her team to the 5A state title in 2006.
Christensen was a four-year starter at Woods Cross and was team MVP. She was also Academic All-State with a 4.

0 GPA.
Nelsen was first-team all-district and a four-year letterwinner.
UVSC men host S.

Dakota State: The Wolverines return to the court today to host South Dakota State at 7 p.m. in the McKay Center.

The game can be heard live on 1400 KSTAR.
This is the second meeting of the season between the two schools. UVSC defeated South Dakota State 66-54 in Brookings, S.

D., on Jan. 25.

Jordan Brady had a career-high 17 points and 13 rebounds in the victory. The Wolverines hold a 2-1 lead in the overall series.
UVSC (18-7) has won a season-high five straight games and lead the United Basketball League standings at 5-1.


Wolverine wrestlers close season: Seniors Justin Rawle and Clayton Wolf will wrestle their final collegiate matches as UVSC wraps up its 2007 wrestling campaign at home against Western Wrestling Conference foe Air Force today at 7 p.m. at the Shurian Activity Center.


UVSC (6-11, 0-4 WWC) will be looking for its first-ever WWC dual victory against the Falcons. The Wolverines beat several of Air Force's wrestlers at the Tracy Borah Duals in Gunnison, Colo. at the end of January.


Rawle, from Springville, leads the Wolverines with a record of 17-15 (10-7 in duals). Both Rawle and Wolf are now four-year letter winners at UVSC. They are the first two four-year letter winners in the program's fourth season.


BYU women's tennis tops Kansas: The Cougars beat the homestanding Kansas Jayhawks 4-3 on Friday, to improve to 3-4 overall.
"We were really focused as a team," said BYU coach Craig Manning. "A couple of the freshman are getting used to playing on the road and it was just a nice, good win.

It's always good to beat a team like Kansas on the road."
The Cougars swept the doubles competition and won three singles matches. Singles victories came from No.

1 Lauren Jones (6-2, 7-6 (3), No. 2 Anastasia Surkova (6-2, 6-2) and No. 6 Dolly Chang (6-2, 6-0).


The Cougars are at Kansas State today.
BYU baseball canceled again: At Portland, Ore., for the second day in a row BYU's baseball game was canceled due to rain at the University of Portland.

The Cougars and Pilots are still scheduled for a doubleheader today, weather permitting, with senior Jesse Craig scheduled to take the mound in the opener and sophomore Jordan Muir set to start the nightcap.
Three Wolverines honored: UVSC soccer players Courtney Robbins, Alyssa Woodbury and Megan Berrett were named to the 2006 United Soccer Conference All-Academic team. The award was voted on by coaches from UVSC, Delaware State, Howard, South Carolina State, Longwood and New Jersey Institute of Technology.


UVSC was the only school with three players on the team.
Robbins finished the fall semester with a 3.94 GPA.

She has a 3.64 overall GPA and is majoring social work. She played and started in all 19 games and had a team-best eight goals and three assists.

Woodbury is a Fire Science major who finished the fall semester with a 3.83 GPA and a 3.96 cumulative GPA.

Woodbury started all 19 games and was a key player in the Wolverines defensive attack. Berrett had a 3.92 GPA for the fall semester and carries a 3.

82 cumulative average. She played in all 19 games and had two goals and two assists in the 2006 season.
UVSC's Walker honored: UVSC junior Joe Walker has been named Independent Newcomer of the Week for his performances last week in wins over UC Davis and Texas-Pan American.

Walker averaged 17 points and six rebounds in the two games.
In the 88-59 home win over UC Davis, Walker scored a career high 22 points and eight rebounds. In the 81-76 road win over Texas-Pan American the Wolverine junior added 12 points.

In the two games he shot 15 of 19 from the field.
