MY wife does not want to wear a seatbelt, as she insists that the airbags fitted in our vehicle offer sufficient protection. To my understanding, this is incorrect. I would be grateful if you would help settle this long standing argument.
ALTHOUGH touted in the 1970s as a seatbelt replacement, more recent research has recommended that airbags supplement the protection provided by seatbelts, as opposed to replacing them. Seat belts prevent the driver from moving forward during a frontal accident and reduce the risk of whiplash injuries to the neck and spine.
