Boozer, Okur spur Jazz over Trail Blazers

Carlos Boozer was on top of his game against the Portland Trail Blazers. Boozer scored 23 points, and Mehmet Okur had a double-double, as the Utah Jazz picked up a 104-90 victory over the Trail Blazers, who remained winless in the preseason. A 6-9 forward, Boozer made 8-of-13 shots and grabbed seven rebounds for Utah, which jumped out to a commanding 31-17 advantage after one quarter and led by as many as 17 before Portland close the gap to three with 8:16 left in the fourth quarter.

But Utah turned it on down the stretch and coasted to the finish line. Andrei Kirilenko recorded 15 points, seven assists and six blocks, and Okur added 13 points and 12 rebounds for the Jazz, who shot 51 percent (40-of-78) and forced 20 turnovers. Kirilenko missed the previous two games due to lower back problems.

Zach Randolph scored 17 points, while first-round pick Brandon Roy and Ime Udoka contributed 16 apiece for the Blazers, who shot just 40 percent (30-of-74). Joel Przybilla left in the first quarter after getting stitches in his chin, but did return one period later. He finished with four points and two steals for Portland, which was outscored, 60-36, in the paint.
