Bliss also supports a single-payer health care system, though he said the state-sponsored DirigoChoice insurance program is a good first step toward universal health care.

He also wants a greater awareness about bullying in elementary schools and tax reform, including the reduction of property taxes.

EDUCATION: Bachelor's degree in psychology, University of Massachusetts-Amherst
POLITICAL EXPERIENCE: South Portland Planning Board, 1998-2002; ran for South Portland City Council in 1992
ON THE ISSUES: Laidley said he wants Maine's working poor to make a livable wage, and wants more money for maintaining roads and bridges.
Laidley also said the state Department of Environmental Protection needs more money to have the ability to enforce state pollution laws.

Laidley supports a single-payer health care system, if it can be accomplished with a "balanced budget."
POLITICAL EXPERIENCE: South Portland Planning Board, 2003-present; ran for state House District 122 seat in 2004
ON THE ISSUES: Nixon said he would support bringing more businesses to the district to lower taxes, and dedicate more funding for schools.
He said Dirigo Health started out as a good idea, but needs improvements.

He suggested that Maine look for savings in the program by pressing more insurance companies to bid on the program.
