Players in the OJ Simpson murder trial appear on Movers Shakers
this week with the news that Fox TV, in a rare display of good
judgment, canceled OJ's "If I Did It" interview special which was to
air on November 27 and November 29. In the interview, OJ would have
descried how he killed his ex-wife if he had killed her, which he still
denies. A book was to follow the television specials for release on
November 30.
Although some copies have already been shipped to stores,
they will be recalled.
Many TV fans have a love/hate
relationship with the Fox network. They are responsible for gems like
"The X-Files" and "24," but they've also forced a barrage of
unforgivable trash at audiences over the years.
Remember Darva Conger
and "Who Wants to Marry a Millionaire"? And "When Animals Attack"? When
"If I Did It" was announced, both audiences and the victims' family
members registered their disgust in droves.
Some Fox affiliates said
that they would not air the special, while many advertisers were
unwilling to participate. Rupert Murdoch said, "I and senior management
[sic] agree with the American public that this was an ill-considered
project. We are sorry for any pain that this has caused the families of
Ronald Goldman and Nicole Brown Simpson.
" Um, yeah.
"American Idol's" Chris Daughtry tops the list with an 1100%
increase. His first album with Daughtry, his creatively named band, hit
stores last Tuesday.
Perhaps his early exit from "Idol" will benefit
him in the long run as people are most likely not completely sick of
him yet due to heinous Ford commercials. (Yes, Taylor Hicks, that was
directed at you.)
David Blaine sees a 700% increase.
While the rest of us
were stuffing our faces, Blaine escaped from a spinning gyroscope above
Times Square on Thanksgiving Day. Wow! Thanksgiving-related queries
like Black Friday and stuffing increased 168% and 91% respectively.
(Mmm. Stuffing.)
Katie Holmes increased 70% after her wedding to Tom Cruise at the Odescalchi Castle in Bracciano, Italy.
Oh, Katie, you really have
ingested that Kool-Aid. I've always had a soft spot for Ms. Holmes
because her "Dawson's Creek" character, Joey Potter, was so plucky and
sarcastic during her high school years.
(She was much less awesome
later on when her hair always looked like crap and she won over muggers
with her charm. At least she ended up with Pacey at the end of the
series which is better than ending up with Dawson or Tom Cruise.)
The wedding was attended by a
plethora of Hollywood folk who seem to have no connection to the couple
at all like Jim Carrey and Jennifer Lopez.
The couple is now
vacationing in the Maldives, most likely plotting ways to garner more
publicity than Brangelina. I will say that Suri is pretty cute, though.
