Eric Clapton - your reviews | The Courier-Mail

It started with another chance to see Mia Dyson - she was pretty good I thought with one standout song sitting down with her box shaped slide guitar thingy.
Eric Clapton came out with little fanfare and his show was broken into 3 sections I guess. I struggled a little to get into the first few songs - although it was musically quite good (maybe just a little too loud).

The second part was amazingly good - accoustic guitars and some favourites. The third part was better than the first with lots of guitar / piano solos. I would have liked more of the pared back middle section of the show (when there did seem to be a buzz between the band the audience.

I don't know whether it his style (or lack of it) or shyness - but for most of the night it just didn't seem to connect with me - very glad I went though as it puts something real to some of my favourite music as I was / am growing up.
Finished with Layla, and then Crossroads in his encore - yeeha!!

!!
The lead guitarist (Derek Trucks) was absolutely awesome (a lot of the musicians on stage were his band I think) and it was only that he was playing with Clapton that he had to play second fiddle (guitar).

It would be good if they stayed in Oz came to the bluesfest without Clapton.
