PONTIAC - The Livingston County Concert Association has started recruiting new members for the upcoming concert season. Association members are encouraged to bring a guest to the Feb. 18 concert by the Reuben Ristrom Quartet.
The concert starts at 2 p.m. at Pontiac Township High School.
The association is dedicated to bringing high-quality but affordable concerts to the county. In the upcoming season, it will host at least three events, each offering a different style of music and entertainment.
Members also receive tickets to concert events in Lincoln, Ottawa and Pekin.
Memberships cost $10 to $70 depending on age and family size.
The Reuben Ristrom Quartet, a jazz group, has been playing music for more than 20 years. It infuses its own style to classic songs.
Relationship building - Couples wishing to rekindle the flames of their relationship will get a chance through a new program.
The University of Illinois Extension Office in Livingston County is hosting a Date your Mate: Celebrate Your Relationship event on Feb. 12.
The workshop, led by family life educator Rachel Schwarzendruber, will help couples remember the early years of their relationship by celebrating their marriage. The session will help make relationships better now and in the future.
The event is free, but registration is required by calling the extension office at (815) 842-1776 by Wednesday.
Chamber schedule - The Pontiac Area Chamber of Commerce is compiling a list of events for the 2007 calendar year.
Any club, organization, school or church group looking to host an event should call the chamber before setting a date to make sure there are no other events at the same time. The chamber is hoping to ensure that several events are not going on at the same time so more people can attend them.
All groups are encouraged to contact the chamber to update contact information. Call the chamber at (815) 844-5131 or e-mail .
Patriotic ribbons - Marta Gebhardt plans on being back this spring at Streator City Park and the municipal golf course to replace weather-worn patriotic ribbons now that she has the city council's blessing for her 22-year project.
Last fall, Gebhardt was ordered to remove the yellow ribbons from city property because she did not have a permit. With 75 angry residents in attendance at a council meeting, former City Manager John Kolata was overruled and a permit issued.
Gebhardt, 72, has hung thousands of ribbons over the years to show support of U.
S. troops, and now several businesses have contacted her about joining the effort.
Library honor - Utica, a village of 2,000 people near Starved Rock State Park, has earned fifth place nationally as having one of the best small libraries.
No other Illinois library was in the top 10 of the American Public Library Rating Index, published in the American Library Association magazine.
Inmate care - The LaSalle County Board will consider copying a Tazewell County plan that would charge inmates for medical care. The plan probably would charge $10 per visit plus $2 for over-the-counter drugs.
If the board approves the plan, part of the $450,000 the county spends annually on inmate health care could be avoided.
