1. The entire staff of "3 Things" is going to the Warren Newport library in Gurnee (224 N . O'Plaine Road) to meet a very old but influential American figure when Ben Franklin visits at 1 p.

m. Saturday. Celebrate Ben's 301st birthday and you can hear him reminisce about his political life, writings and inventions.

We have an abiding fondness for comic Jake Johannsen. He's a small-town guy who made it in the big time. Plus, he's got this old routine about the psychology of selling your personal treasures at yard sales.

3. Lots of music comes to College of Lake County.

Jazz dance company, Giordano Jazz Dance Chicago, performs on Friday, Feb. 16. In March, there's "March Music Madness on the Mainstage" featuring three different kinds of music: Big Band Dance Revue on March 4 (dance plus big band jazz, ragtime and swing); Cherish the Ladies, an Irish-American vocal and instrumental group, on March 10; and the Chicago rock band, The Ides of March, on March 30.
