23: The East Hartford Exchange Club will host its Annual Social and Informational evening on Tuesday, January 23 at the Marco Polo from 6 to 7:30 p.m. The Social will provide an opportunity for residents of the community to meet Exchange Club members and to learn more about their local Programs of Services in East Hartford, Manchester and South Windsor.

Hors d'oeuvres and Punch will be served during the fellowship hour, and there will be a short program, concluding at 7:30 p.m. Guests will be eligible for a drawing for a "Treasure Chest" door prize.

24: The state legislature's Permanent Commission on the Status of Women (PCSW), in partnership with the Girl Scouts, the YWCA of the Hartford Region, Aspira, and the U.S. Coast Guard Academy present the "13th Annual Making Women Visible Day" Girls and Leadership on Wednesday, January 24th.

Kick-Off is at 9:30 a.m. in Room 2C, Legislative Office Building with activities throughout the day.

Workshops for girls will include topics such as "How To Make A Great First Impression", "Women in Action", "Girl Grantmaker", "It's More Than Just a Job", "It's All in How You Logo It". Tours of the Capitol and lunch with women legislators follows. This event is organized by the Girl Scouts and the YWCA and the Hartford Region and is geared for girls ages 13-17.

Five Handbell Choirs will ring individually and collectively utilizing five octaves of English Whitechaapel Bells, four-and-a-half octaves of American Malmark Bells, two octaves of Petit Fritsen Bells from Holland and three octaves of Malmark Choir Chimes. The Carol Handbell Choir, the Laudate Handbell Choir, the Campanella Handbell Choir and the Belles Beaux are directed by David Spicer and Marty Bernardi.

Free. The concert will take place in the historic Meetinghouse of First Church of Christ, 250 Main Street in Old Wethersfield. (Exit 26, just off I-91).

According to George, last year, due to the hurricane damage, the event had to be moved from Port Charlotte to Venice and it turned out real well. The Jacaranda West Country Club provided a perfect setting, great food and great service. There were 160 in attendance and a good time was had by all.
