It seems foolish even to try to replicate The Band, perhaps the group that most understood and reflected the roots and sensibilities of 20th-century American music. "Endless Highway: The Music of the Band," does just that, and that the effort succeeds is a credit both to artists who approach the music with reverence and the timelessness of the songs. Some of the choices are obvious, notably the Allman Brothers burning through a live performance of "The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down" at the Warner Theater in Erie, and Blues Traveler's "Rag Mama Rag.
" And it's no surprise that My Morning Jacket nails "It Makes No Difference," or Jakob Dylan -- with help from Lizzie Wright -- captures the melancholy of "Whispering Pines.
