Nelly Furtado takes The Beatles' spot at No. 1 on Euro charts - Music

Nelly Furtado`s 'Loose' (Geffen) ended the Beatles` seven-week reign over European Top 100 Albums with a No. 3 to No. 1 climb.

It was the album`s first time at the summit in its 31st chart week, although Furtado lost control of Eurochart Hot Singles, dropping 1-2 with "All Good Things (Come To An End)" as "Smack That" by Akon featuring Eminem (Konvict/Universal) returned to the top. The pan-European No. 1 album was a career first for Furtado, whose debut set 'Whoa, Nelly' reached No.

8 in 2001 while its follow-up 'Folklore' hit No. 12 in 2004. 'Loose' hit the top after starting a second week at No.

1 in Germany and climbing 5-3 in Austria, 19-10 in Italy and 31-22 in the United Kingdom. It was down 1-3 in Switzerland. "All Good Things" had four current No.

1 placings to its name, in Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Holland. The other movers on the composite album chart were also consistent sellers from Universal. Soul-flavored English singer-songwriter James Morrison was back up 10-4 with 'Unidiscovered' (Polydor) after 24 weeks, after a 5-2 climb in the United Kingdom.

Weekly sales of 20,000 units there took its total, since a No. 1 debut last August, to 889,000. Amy Winehouse`s 'Back To Black' (Island) moved 2-1 to top the Official U.

K. Albums Chart for the first time, and 9-7 on Top 100 Albums. Weekly U.

K. sales are 35,000, according to charts compiler the Official U.K.

Charts Company, for a running total of 360,000. The album was also up 16-4 in Ireland. Current release "You Know I`m No Good" improved 40-18 on the Official U.

K. Singles chart. Yet another long-runner from Universal, 'Das Grosse Leben' (Island) by German pop duo Rosenstolz, was up again, 33-15 in its 45th European chart week.

That was after a 7-4 jump in Germany. "Smack That" rose from No. 5 to top the Eurochart, having spent a week there in November.

It owed its revival to a No. 4 debut in France and climbs of 4-1 in Norway, 6-4 in Switzerland, and 11-4 and 6-5 respectively in the Belgian regions of Wallony and Flanders. The track also maintained a top ten berth in the United Kingdom after 10 weeks, dipping 5-8.

German dance trio Cascada continued to flourish with two singles. "Everytime We Touch" (Andorfine), which spent three weeks at No. 5 on the Eurochart in November, was back up 13-9 after entering at No.

8 in Germany. The group`s update of Savage Garden`s 1998 hit "Truly, Madly, Deeply," licensed in the U.K.

to independent dance label All Around The World, was No. 10 there and No. 4 in Ireland.

The fastest riser on the new Eurochart was "Tell Me" (Bad Boy/Atlantic) by P.Diddy featuring Christina Aguilera, up 35-13 following a No. 5 debut in Germany.

New at No. 16 was "Grace Kelly" (Casablanca/Universal Island) by Lebanese-born, U.K.

-based newcomer Mika. A much-touted discovery in the U.K.

, he opened at No. 3 there on downloads of 20,000, in a close-run top three in which Leona Lewis` "A Moment Like This" (Syco Music/Sony BMG) narrowly secured a fourth week at No. 1 and "Proper Education" (Data/Positiva) by Eric Prydz vs.

Floyd held at No. 2. Mika is in the running for the No.

1 spot on the U.K.`s new chart, to be revealed Sunday (Jan.

21), according to midweek data. Mika will be pursued by another rising artist, London-born singer-rapper Just Jack`s "Starz In Their Eyes" (Mercury), which opened at No. 4 in the U.

K. and at No. 19 on the Eurochart.
