System Of A Down, Evanescence, others contribute to Darfur and Sudan auction

System Of A Down, Evanescence, Coldplay and Gorillaz are some of the artists donating autographed items and memorabilia to Waxploitation Records' third annual charity auction for the African nations of Darfur and Sudan. The start date and online location for the auction will be announced either late next week or early the following week. All proceeds will go to Oxfam, Human Rights Watch and the Save Darfur Coalition.

Other acts contributing items for the auction include Panic! At The Disco, Maroon 5, the Pussycat Dolls, Sonic Youth, Wilco, Brian Wilson, Kanye West, Rihanna, Patti Smith, Bright Eyes, and the cast of Law Order.

The auction will be held in conjunction with eBay.

Waxploitation previously released the Genocide in Sudan charity CD in 2004, featuring tracks by System Of A Down, Gorillaz, Yoko Ono and Bad Religion. Its two previous charity auctions for Darfur, in 2005 and 2006, included items from Radiohead, OutKast, Nine Inch Nails and others.

Darfur has been caught in a deadly civil conflict for more than three years, with at least 400,000 people killed and another two million forced to flee their homes for refugee camps in Sudan or Chad.

According to the Save Darfur Coalition, "Not since the Rwandan genocide of 1994 has the world seen such a calculated campaign of displacement, starvation, rape, and mass slaughter."
