Submitted by Leader Staff on Thu, 2007-01-18 20:46. Sloan, who have dubbed the “Beatles of Canada” in many circles, play a gig in Cleveland on Sunday. The band is touring their 8th release in “Never Hear the End of It” which is fitting because the disc holds 30 songs on a single disc.
The band plays a great show, as the members switch instruments, all sing, and have a lively stage presence. Their cult-like fans add to the excitement as the majority of the crowd will sing along to many of their Canadian radio hits.
The band itself was very close to reaching superstardom but fell short when their record label at the time, Geffen, stopped promoting their work stateside when Sloan’s “powerpop” sound was overtaken with the Invasion of ‘grunge” led by the likes of bands like Nirvana.
The band carried on and have made a great career, evening starting their own record label in Canada. If you’re a fan of bands like AC/DC, The Beatles, or The Rolling Stones your in for a treat if you check the band out Sunday.
