Another 1,266 acres of rural farm and forest land were approved for development Wednesday under Measure 37 claims. Action by the Yamhill County commissioners paves the way for creation of about 175 lots intended for homes, though that doesn't necessarily mean all will be developed. The claims included one for state Sen.

Gary George and his wife, County Commissioner Kathy George. She abstained as colleagues Leslie Lewis and Mary Stern voted to approve a claim covering the family's 393-acre farm and homestead at 15195 N.E.

Ribbon Ridge Road, near Newberg. The Georges plan to partition off six 20-acre parcels, five 40-acre parcels and one 66-acre parcel, to be developed piecemeal over at least six years. That enables them to avoid having their project considered a subdivision.

The board also approved a claim for an unusual mix of uses. Wallace W. and Mary Jo Ann Wood, 24900 N.

W. Wallace Road, Salem, submitted a claim covering 56 acres. Their intent is to carve out 14 lots for single-family dwellings, one for a common-wall condominium and one for a private air strip, a par-three golf course and common-use facilities to be managed by a homeowners association.

They estimated lost value through zoning restrictions at $650,000. The Wallace claim was one of 10 on which the commissioners split 2-1, with Stern in the minority. The others were as follows: n David Erickson, 3169 S.
