Beatles lyrics sold for $300,000 at auction

Some handwritten lyrics from George Harrison brought in a pretty penny at a memorabilia auction this week, although not as much as expected. Harrison's original set of lyrics for the Beatles song "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" were put up for bids on Monday (January 15th) in Scottsdale, Arizona, by the Cooper Owen auction house, and when the gavel was struck for the last time, the paper went for $300,000. Representatives of the auction firm had previously estimated that the "Weeps" lyric sheet might have gone for as much as $800,000.

The sheet of paper includes Harrison's corrections as he wrote the song, as well as some alternate lines that didn't make it onto the band's "White Album" in 1968.
