(Media-Newswire.com) - During daytime, off peak hours, eastbound traffic will be confined to a contraflow lane operating on the westbound carriageway and one lane on the eastbound carriageway. During night-time closures traffic will be diverted onto the contraflow lane.
The eastbound slip road at Junction 12 will also be closed overnight, with traffic diverted via Junction 11. Three lanes will be kept open on both sides of the motorway during peak hours. A 40mph speed restriction will be maintained on both sides for the safety of drivers and contractors.
"This work will significantly improve safety for drivers by reducing the amount of standing water on the carriageway. The work has been carefully planned to keep delays to a minimum but some hold-ups are likely so we advise drivers to allow extra time for their journeys. "This applies especially to those heading to either Manchester International or Liverpool John Lennon airports, or heading to time sensitive events, such as the theatre or football matches.
"The lanes will be narrowed throughout the duration of the project and a temporary 40mph speed limit will be enforced by speed cameras for the safety of drivers and for road workers." 1. The Highways Agency is an executive agency of the Department for Transport.
