Even London's most elegant supermodel can start to look a bit frayed at the edges after a night out on the town. Kate Moss celebrated her 33rd birthday on Tuesday night in true Kate-style with her boyfriend (maybe fiance, maybe husband) Pete Doherty and a group of friends. Moss's birthday tour of London began at home in Primrose Hill yesterday where she received presents including flowers and a bottle of 1999 Dom Perignon.
Doherty, 27, left her at about 1pm and Moss herself went out three hours later, dressed in a shaggy coat and skinny jeans, to meet him at Scott's oyster bar in Mayfair. After dinner they went to the Donmar Warehouse to see their friend, Rhys Ifans, in Don Juan In Soho. By then, Moss had changed into a cream gown.
She also appeared to be following the current celebrity trend of going without knickers - perhaps a bit of a mistake considering the dress was slashed up to somewhere around her navel and there were stairs to manoeuvre. That's when the model may have come a cropper in her billowing frock. She was caught sitting on the stairs while attempting to sneak out of the theatre's rear exit - prompting suspicion that she had fallen on the stairs after catching her stiletto in the hem.
They went on to China Tang before moving next door to The Bar at the Dorchester, joined by Moss's pals including Sadie Frost, 41, who was with an extremely young-looking man, and Paul Simonon, 51, who used to be in The Clash. The group's bill came to more than 1,000. Kate, drinking vodka martini cocktails, ignored their guests as she shared a sofa with Doherty.
She kissed his neck and whispered in his ear while straddling his lap. In the wake of reports that a wedding is imminent for the couple, they were sporting identical signet rings - although hers was on her right hand. At about midnight, Doherty was spotted leaving the Dorchester before the others, presumably because he was due in court this morning.
After heading off into the night, he later turned up back at Moss's home with what appeared to be another present ready for when she arrived at 4am. He showed up wearing the same clothes for his appearance at Thames Magistrates Court this morning for review of his progress in beating drug addiction. As he left the court following the five-minute hearing, the star said it had not been easy trying to give up drugs.
"It's like she said, really it's just time," he added. "For the first time I am actually turning up for appointments in a coherent state. It's a really positive time for me.
