There is this school of thought in the (we are speaking of the high-end here): any and every casino hotel undertaking is a response. It is a response to the hotel build immediately before it. Let us go down memory lane, Hilton Sky Villas were built to "meet and challenge" Wynn's suites (Mirage, '89) and the Treasure Island (early 90's).

As far as the Mirage is concerned, Wynn gave a new defintion to high-rolling betting. They logged in one million (each) from an unbelievable four hundred persons just in the 1st year of operations. Forum Penthouse was put up to "meet and challenge" this "glory" of Wynn's establishments.

Way back in '98, the Bellagio came into being but that was not the end of things. The globe's biggest hotel- MGM Grand- dished out something that made all the competitors pause and concede defeat, at least for now. I am speaking of the two hundred million dollar Mansion.

This establishment has England-trained butlers and world-renowned antiques.
According to one insider (he was part of the "building force" of the Caesars and Mansion), MGM redefined the word "opulence", and yes, that statement was no exaggeration. According to him, the budget provided was so big that they could "do almost anything"- and look at what they did.

This expert journeyed to Europe to find the decorations/antiques which as of present are showcased in this high-rollers' place.
He is a very rare individual, one of the truly multi-faceted personalities in this side of the world, Van Patten (Vince) that is. Nowadays, he does regular .

Not only that, he is once again active in the movie world: Autumn winds has been made not too long ago. This is a movie regarding a poker player who journeyed to Vegas and competed in a "super-major" event. Moreover, Patten is a regular visitor to one of the most popular online poker rooms.

Once upon a time, he was numbered in the top 30 best players of the globe, we are talking of tennis here. (Pardon the sudden switch). In the late seventies, he was the recipient of the Rookie of the Year award from the Association of Tennis Professionals.

Peak of his career could be considered when he crushed the greatest players of that era (Gerulaitis, Clerk and of course my idol- used to be my idol- McEnroe). He reigned supreme in Tokyo's Seiko World Super Tennis tourney.
When he decided to "bury" his tennis racquet, Vince went back to the movie industry.

In '95, his first film ("The Break") was distributed by Trimark Pictures. Way back in '01, he appeared in an ABC movie entitled (Battle of the Sexes), which was a re-enactment of the 73' tennis battle between Riggs and Jean King. We are talking of John Daly here, he himself admitted that he has lost something in the range of fifty to sixty million dollars in the course of for more than a decade. He said that if he could not contain it, it would totally ruin him. In his biography "John Daly: My Life In and Out of the Rough", he discussed his problems with gambling.

This is no secret: in one important match where he lost to Tiger, he still earned $750,000, then he went straight to the Strip. He lost $1.65M in just 5 hours at the slots.

"What? are those?"- you are bound to ask.

Oh well, these were the five thousand slot units, that's why.
Just recently, the PGA commissioner met with him at Charlotte, the former told Daly that the organization was concerned about him, and expressed support over his "personal difficulties".
Going back to the book, John said that he has been paying gambling commitments for the past decade using his sponsorship monies, appearance fees and whatever he has been getting from the company outing events.

This article refers basically to the corporate , but actually, since so many high rollers found at the casino floor own/manage various non-gambling businesses, this also includes them (the latter). For those casino high-rollers who do not have a single business venture outside the , oh well, they are a different story.
On the 3rd floor of our beloved IRS, they have formed a special tax "squad" that is tasked to "hunt down" a special breed: the American corporate "rich men" (both genders here I mean).

The IRS Commissioner (on large/mid size business bracket) said that for the past years, they saw an upswing -behavior wise- on tax evading acts by the (very) wealthy individuals and firms. They have been doing extraordinary measures to achieve this, according to IRS' top official.
The audits of the high-bracketed taxpayers (revenues of more than $100,000) went to 195,000 in the previous year.

This was a forty percent rise. For the current year, not less than three thousand cases were forwarded to criminal prosecution, this time a 20% increase.
This may interest you, the number 1 factor on the tax returns of high-rollers that makes the IRS sit up and take notice: the transfer of stock options to a partnership (family) where they still have a say on things.

Of course with the intention of tax evasion (or deferring). That is the principal concentration of the IRS as of present. Among many other things, the MGM Mirage offers the (and from everywhere else for that matter) with high-class restaurants worthy of the celebrities (in gambling or Hollywood or both).

Vongerichten, Maccioni and Lagasse (all noteworthy experts in this field) have dining rooms in the MGM gambling establishments. Not only that, shows (say the Cirque du Soleil) are shown in a theater fashioned after the Paris Opera House (tickets could go up to 150$/head).
The casino's most treasured patrons, also , are known for travelling extensively on a whim, and some of their favorite countries/cities are Shanghai, Hongkong and Taipei.

The approach of MGM is built on impressing the clientele. In the Bellagio casino, it is now a known (very well-known in fact) thing that they have numerous fountains which expel water more than 200 feet high, accompanied by music ("water ballet" is it termed). I am sure that you are also familiar with that "volcano" exploding for every quarter of an hour.

Going back to the dining part, in case you are interested in knowing exactly what kind of dining rooms/halls they have, let me just cite one. The well-renowned chef/restaurateur- Tom Colicchio- has made Craftsteak a welcome addition to the set of dining halls of the MGM. Colicchio has clinched 2 James Beard Foundation Awards, making him a true authority in the dining/restaurant enterprise.

Oregon Entertainment Center would have a , theater for shows, a bowling center, novelty shops, a spa and restaurants (the hotel goes without saying I suppose). Total square footage would be very near to a million square feet, and about 175,000 of this would be dedicated to the gaming activities.

Moreover, about 4,500 terminals for video lottery are seriously considered. The other mainstream casino games like blackjack and craps would not be forgotten.
The entity engaged in a signature drive to put the amendment (for the establishment) on the 2006 balloting phase.

The objective: make an exception for the Oregon Entertainment Center and in the process, this would not nullify the ban as far as is concerned. The constitution of the state mandates gaming taxes to be directed to education thrusts. The entity's estimates would go to the neighborhood of one
hundred million, and it would not only be confined to education.

Economic development and parks would also be profited.
The Wood Village's mayor gave his support behind the construction of this new club, voicing that gambling has contributed significantly, as shown by the track record. High rollers, prepare your millions, , for this is one event I am pretty sure (most of you) would be interested in.

The number one man of Mongolia, Asashoryu, would carry an elite group in the first tournament (sumo) ever that would happen here in the country's prime gambling locus. Mongolia's grand champion along with the rest of the field, would showcase their strength (literal and figurative in this case) on the first week of October in Mandalay Bay. It would be the first important competition in this sport since 1985 (Madison Square Garden).

According to the producer, they simply waited for the ideal conditions before they decided to bring back the sumo event to the USA. Very young at 24, Asashoryu has awed Japan with his prowess in the game, and it is his intention to spread the game's popularity to a wider populace all over the world.
The event's organizers would have a special squad tasked to make the ring, dohyo- all with the correct blend of sand, clay and straw bales.

These traditions (of the sport) go back more than 1,000 years, not exactly in the class of chess, but still worthy of respect from all of us. (Again, high rollers, this is a very, very rare wagering event, prepare for the betting..

.you'll enjoy this, a breather from your million-spending sessions.) This is one of my pet peeves, so to speak, I am referring to those persons (eating in casino restaurants or in active play at the ) who obstruct others from enjoying themselves- most particularly the high-rollers.

Not only that, but also at the casino managements who permit them to annoy other people, especially because the unruly persons are high-rollers. Do not get me wrong, I am not a high-roller-hater, far from it. Fact is, I have good friends who are indeed high-rollers, but these persons are basically responsible and considerate.

Let me give you a casino situation which is not actually hypothetical. This really occurred around 5 or 6 years ago. (I heard that they have a new management, thus, I will no longer say which casino, not even which state it is located in.

) I (with a couple of good friends) was engaged in blackjack in the high limit area of this casino- this I say though, its popularity has dipped over the past 2 or 3 years. On that night, a was going on in the same area, the players were yelling mercilessly without any pause. The ruckus was so intolerable that I (and my companions) stood up and called it a day.

(Actually, I could not recall, but I guess we transferred to another club.)
Hollering every hour or so is one thing, hollering for 2 hours straight is another. A few weeks after that incident, I (alone this time) went back to that casino.

Lo and behold, the same group (3 of them) was in the same table, playing the same game, acting in the same (bad) decorum. What I did not do was play, what I actually did was call the pit boss. I told him that the management's tolerance of this kind of ruckus is losing them my money and very soon, my patronage.

The pit boss sympathized, saying that all the other casino employees were also irritated with the behavior of the group. However, he disclosed that their Big Boss told them not to interfere in any way whatsoever. Management (or at least somebody very high in the hierarchy) obviously could not risk letting go of this group.

(I learned later on that they were high rollers, actually they did not dress the part but hey, appearances are not everything.)
So there, my 2 pet peeves found in a single incident. (Even if there were 2 visits, I am counting this as one.

) This kind of event sticks to one's memory, at least it did for me. What I give thanks to the Lord for is, these people (both the high-rolling-ruckus-creating and the management-ruckus-tolerating) are the exceptions, particularly in today's generation of casinos.
In case you are one of those rare breed who (for whatever reason) still would not consider the MGM Grand Hotel/Casino as one of the true high-rollers' place, read on please.
The establishment has many live theaters, a place for concert events, and even a sports venue- with all these, they were able to show quite a number of exceptional performances and other special affairs. Look at the celebrities who at one time or another have graced this casino:
#Barbara Streisand- gave a concert for the very first time in more than 2 decades for the MGM Grand Garden Arena's christening.

# The Rolling Stones (you do remember them?), Neil Diamond- among other popular figures.
In the realm of boxing, the greats such as Holyfield, Tyson, and Foreman have shown their world-recognized skills in this .

Every night in this location, David Cassidy along with a group of seventy give out what is arguably the globe's biggest stage production performance. That is not all, in the showrooms, show business' most popular figures have made appearances: Liza Minneli, Frank Sinatra, Tom Jones, Jay Leno..

.just to mention some.
One monicker this enjoys is "The City of Entertainment", and no question about it folks, who can contest it?

independent accounting firm. Payout percentages are calculated by comparing wagers to payouts for all games at the casino. The payout percentages do not of any game.

I know this, it became arrested. This underscores how It is Stephen King dude..

.not the same genre of fiction.

Impressive.

..I will be a rides you mentioned, but I am looking forward to it.

I'm from Texas, and the whole night of those suites, haha.

is really something.
